Jamestown Civil Air Patrol composition squadron cadets were busy serving their communities throughout May
On Saturday, May 9, members of the Civil Air Patrol Jamestown squadron volunteered at the Kiwanis Bike Safety Rodeo. The members arrived early to set up the event, moving tables, chairs and setting up tents. During the event, cadets worked bike safety stations, leading the children through obstacle courses. Cadets also helped with face painting and coloring sheets. After the event, the cadets assisted in moving equipment back into the building and carrying items to the volunteer’s vehicles. The cadets were complimented on their work ethic, respectfulness and kindness.
The cadets then volunteered both days of STEM Wars on May 20-21 at the Northwest Arena. Cadets had the opportunity to serve as assistants and judges for the STEM competitions, serve lunch to the students, speak to the participants about Civil Air Patrol, carry items for vendors and clean up the arena after the event. A highlight was a push up competition between one of the cadets and a robot.
The squadron’s Color Guard team presented the colors for the Air Force Heritage Brass Band concert in Fredonia on May 22 and marched in Memorial Day parades in Frewsburg and Falconer. The cadets joined the color guard in the Falconer parade and took part in the memorial service at the cemetery. A cadet also placed the wreath during the ceremony.
