The Chautauqua County Beekeepers Association will conduct a series of seminars for beginning beekeepers on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Fluvanna Community Church, 3363 Fluvanna Ave., Jamestown.
At 11 a.m.., club members will conduct a show-and-tell presentation of the basic equipment and protective clothing required to get started in beekeeping. At noon club members will review the seasonal progression of the beekeeper’s management chores, choices and obligations throughout a typical year.
The seminars continue at 1 p.m. with members holding a show-and-tell presentation on using beeswax to make salves, balms and candles. The day ends with a 2 p.m. seminar by club member Shannon Rinow, coordinator of Cornell Cooperative Extension’s Master Gardener program, who will conduct a presentation on gardening with native plants to favor pollinators.
The presentations are open to the public free of charge. No previous experience in beekeeping is required. Questions will be encouraged.
