American Scandinavian Heritage Foundation Posts Scandinavian Christmas Video

The American Scandinavian Heritage Foundation is presenting a Christmas video online sharing the music of the season.

Greetings and performances include Smorgasbandet from Long Island, Jaerv and Magnus Martensson from Sweden, Oskar Stenmark from Central Park in New York City, as well as Nilla Ecklof, and Svenska Spelman from Chautauqua County.

The pandemic has precluded the community from celebrating its Scandinavian heritage with the cancelations of the Christmas Market, Lucia, Scandinavian Folk Festival and a number of other events. ASHF officials said they look forward to the future and the return of their regular events.

The 46-minute video is on YouTube, where one can search for Scandinavian Jamestown and find a video titled “Swedish Christmas Greetings from Jamestown, New York.” In the past week more than 250 people have viewed the greeting. At this site, one can also access five lectures from the 2019 Scandinavian Folk Festival.

The production of this video is made possible through the Decentralization Program, a regrant program of the state Council on the Arts. For more information call 665-0883.
