Unitarian Church Repeating Donation Day Saturday

The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Jamestown is again accepting donations on Saturday, Oct. 31, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for those in need in the community. In addition to other items, Carrie Wolfgang (pictured), proprietor of Jamestown’s Novel Destination-Used Book Emporium, contributed several boxes of books and food to the project.

The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Jamestown will hold another Donation Day on Saturday, Oct. 31, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Contributors are asked to come to the entrance off the parking lot behind the church at 1255 Prendergast Avenue.

“We had a wonderful Donation Day event!” said Linda Hiers, Social Justice Committee chair of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Jamestown.

Hiers said about half of the donations came from UUCJ members and friends and half from the larger community.

“We received canned goods and dry goods for our food giveaway project, items that were requested by the nurse at Persell School, and coats for Community Helping Hands. We also got lots of books for both kids and adults for our book boxes. Some folks came all the way from Warren with their donations.”

Items being requested are:

¯ fiction and nonfiction books and magazines for kids and adults for the book boxes in front of the church

¯ canned goods for the free food box, also in front of the church, for warmer days with no freezes

¯ dry food items such as rice, soup mixes, dried beans, boxed bread and muffin mixes for days with low temperatures

¯ items for distribution to middle schoolers: black leggings (all sizes), winter hats, gloves, scarves, boots, toiletry items, granola bars, packaged cheese or peanut butter crackers, protein bars

¯ new or gently used coats for Community Helping Hands

Hand-crafted greeting cards for a variety of occasions will again be available for purchase. Proceeds are used to buy books for the book boxes.

Donors are reminded to wear face coverings when bringing their items.
