Senior Fitness Seminar Set

Certified Fitness Specialist Ron McEntire will be holding a free senior fitness seminar on Tuesday, Oct. 22, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 410 N. Main St., Jamestown, from 4-5:30pm in the church undercroft.

Community members who are 65 (or approaching that milestone in the next few years) are invited to attend the program, which is designed to help individuals understand their own fitness levels. Participants are asked to dress in appropriate comfortable fitness attire.

McEntire, who is also St. Luke’s director of music, has studied the impacts of aging for the past three years and received his certifications as a Senior Fitness Specialist and Pain Free Movement Specialist through the American Council of Exercise. He says that his passion, along with music, is to focus on his ‘functional age’ instead of his chronological age. Noting that the number of Americans over the age of 65 will double in the next 30 years, Mc Entire says that he became interested in what the process of aging can do to our bodies as we age and if that process can be slowed down, stopped, or even reversed.

In addition to sharing some of his thoughts on how seniors can stay fit and active, McEntire will also be conducting a ‘Senior Fitness Test’ that will help participants compare their fitness levels to the average American.

For more information about the program, contact St. Luke’s Church office at 483-6405.
