Temperature And Rain Comply As Stahley Family Holds Its 16th Reunion

RANDOLPH — The 16th annual Stahley family reunion was held recently, hosted by Peter and Corinne Benson Dauphin of East Randolph.

The rain stopped in time for a meal of ribs, fried walleye, corn and the usual Stahley family favorites. Regan Smith found himself assisting Chef Pete at the grill. Temperatures were in the low 70s. The rain moved out and did not impede the cornhole tournament. The meeting was opened by Janet Huntington of Randolph. She read last year’s minutes and gave a financial report as of that date. The oldest family member attending was Jeff Cloutier of Napoli at the age of 76. The youngest member was Peter Larry Dauphin III (Larry) of East Randolph, who has celebrated his first birthday. He is the son of Pete and Corinne.

Milestones announced were Andrew Hitchcock and Laura Hitchcock, of Peoria, Ariz., are expecting a baby the beginning of February 2020. Derek Stahley Jr. graduated from Pioneer Central School. Chase Smallback graduated from Jamestown Community College in the spring and Shawn Huntington obtained his administration degree from University of Rochester.

A moment of silence was held for deceased relatives.

Thirty-nine family members were in attendance. The family members traveling the farthest were David and Charlotte Stahley of Springville. The winning 50/50 ticket was drawn by Corinne Benson Dauphin, with Lori Benson winning $30. The tickets were sold by Nikki Smallback and Ryder Smith.

A series of bingo games was played.

Cash prizes were won by Ryder Smith, Nora Dauphin, Jeff Cloutier, Tom Stahley, Harper Smith and Lori Benson winning the full card for $40. This took the place of the children’s auction, buit there were some baskets that many of the children enjoyed.

The Chinese auction was again a hit this year with some of the Stahley favorites like gift cards, cookies, produce and flowers and mums.

Children spent the day trying to master the hover board and John Stahley attempted some feats with Stevie.

The cornhole tournament began with the presenting of the flag and singing of the Star Spangled Banner. There were 14 teams on four boards. Mike Stahley and John Hitchcock were victorious and took home the trophy and medals of honor. A few Stahley descendents are very competitive, trying to blame their loss on board positioning and weight of the bags.

An inquiry was made into who would host next year’s 2020 reunion and Janet and Jim Huntington of Randolph accepted.

A short bonfire ended the evening until the rain returned.
