Audubon Nature Center To Hold ‘First Friday’ Event At Church

At the Audubon Community Nature Center’s First Friday event, attendees can learn how a once-condemned property is now this beautiful urban greenspace supported by First Lutheran Church.

Katie Finch, Audubon Community Nature Center senior nature educator, is going “on location” with her presentation for the First Friday event.

The public is invited to come this Friday to First Lutheran Church, 120 Chandler St., Jamestown, for the 11 a.m. get-together.

Finch will talk about “Urban Greenspace at First Lutheran Church,” as part of a project that in a couple of years has turned an empty lot into a garden that attracts butterflies and people from the community.

The public will learn how the project came to be, the cooperation that went into making it happen, why the planners included food plants and those with other purposes — like milkweed for Monarchs, what the response has been, and what the next push is.

After the indoor presentation, the group will head outside to explore the greenspace that has been created.

Those who attend should bring a brown bag lunch to share afterward and enjoy the company of the speaker and fellow participants.

The fee for attending First Friday is $8, or $6 for Audubon Community Nature Center members.

Walk-ins are welcome. Registrations are accepted through Thursday by calling 569-2345 during business hours or going online to AudubonCNC.org/Programs and clicking “Current Schedule.”
