Rodeo City Seniors Hear Singer At Meeting

GERRY — The Rodeo Senior Citizens meet once a month on the second Friday in the Gerry United Methodist Church for a luncheon and program at noon.

President Allen Swanson welcomed all to the gathering. Art Hodges gave the blessing prior to the meal.

Festive table decorations were provided by Judy Dailey.

Following the meal, the group were entertained by Patty Cook, who impersonates the country singer Patsy Cline. Patsy Cline was a popular singer in the late 1950’s and early 1960s with over 101 songs in an eight-year career. Sadly, Cline was killed in an airplane accident in 1963.

Cook keeps up the legend of Cline by providing entertainment with her impersonation and singing a variety of her songs.

Some of the songs sung included Always, Walkin’ After Midnight, I Fall to Pieces, which was the number one hit, Sweet Dreams and closing with the song Crazy. In between songs, Cook would tell something about Cline’s life.

Swanson led all in the Pledge of Allegiance, and secretary Peg Harrison read the minutes of the previous meeting Treasurer Barb Swanson gave the financial report of the group.

Sunshine chairman Ruth Newton reported that Pat Heath is celebrating a birthday, and the birthday song was sung. At the next meeting on Friday, June 14, Liz Walters and Barb Brown will provide the table decorations.

All those attending are asked to bring a dish of food to pass and their own table settings.

This gathering closed with all singing “Blest Be The Tie That Binds” written by John Fawcett in 1772, and led by Martha Everhart.
