Corrective Surgery Needed For Dog At Humane Society

Barney

The Chautauqua County Humane Society is working to raise money to help a loving dog regain his sight.

Barney first came to the Chautauqua County Humane Society as a stray in February 2018 and was quickly adopted out. Between February and November 2018, Barney began losing his sight and suffered from a growing sense of fear.

That overwhelming sense of fear was making his living arrangement difficult. So Barney was returned to CCHS.

After Barney came back to CCHS the sight loss was investigated and it was determined at Animal Eye Care of Western New York that he had developed cataracts in both of his eyes, an odd development for a 5-year-old dog. It was found that in his left eye is a fully matured cataract and in his right eye is a juvenile cataract.

It was also made known at that time that Barney’s sight can be saved.

Barney’s sight can be restored. Barney is in need of corrective surgery on his eyes that will restore his sight. The cost for Barney’s surgery is $5,500 and it will need to be done soon to achieve optimal results. Barney’s condition continues to worsen, and if the surgery is not done soon he will lose his sight completely.

“It would be really great to see the community come together and help Barney regain the gift of sight,” said CCHS Community Relations Director Brian Papalia.

Donations can be made online at spcapets.com, or mailed to 2825 Strunk Road, Jamestown, in care of Barney’s Sight.
