Two Family Reunions To Be Held

STOCKTON — The 144th reunion of the Blodgett family and the 131st reunion of the Pierce/Landas family of Chautauqua County will both be held Saturday at the Chautauqua County Fireman’s Picnic Grounds in Stockton.

The Blodgett family will also be celebrating 383 years since the family landed in the Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1635. The Pierce family landed in Rhode Island.

Blodgett family members are the descendants of Thomas and Susan Blodgett, who came from England on the ship “Increase” of London, England, arriving in the Boston area late in July 1635. Thomas Blodget was a glover by trade.

Pierce family members are the descendants of John Pearce and Martha Brayton, who came from Wales, and Peter Paul Landis (Laundeas) from France, through to Ichabod and Harriet Pierce, who took 14 weeks to move to Chautauqua County from Vermont in the early 1800s.

The Blodgett; Pierce/Landas families include these family names: Blodgett; Pierce; Landas (Landers), Russ; Turk; Bronson; Scott; Dorman: Howard; Beebe; Lowell; Guest; Burt; Munger; Housington; Bull; Aldrich; Nickerson, and many more. All are welcome to join the group.

The reunion starts at noon with a pot luck dinner at 1 p.m. Family are asked to bring a dish to pass, a cold beverage and table service and to also bring any old family photos or other family memorabilia to share. Family members are also asked to bring a favorite recipe for the family cookbook. There will be genealogical books, charts and other information available.

There are three branches of the Blodgett family in Western New York. The branches settled in Busti, Cottage, and Fredonia-Pomfret.
