YMCA To Offer Waterfront Lifeguarding Classes
The Jamestown YMCA will offer an American Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguarding class from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, June 16, and 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, June 17-18 and 24-25.
Students must attend all classes. All participants will need to successfully complete the pre-test to be permitted to take the course. The pre-test includes a 550-yard swim, recovering a brick, collecting submerged rings and treading water. The pre-test will be the first part of class on the June 16. Class size is limited and pre-registration is encouraged. The cost for the class is $235 for YMCA members and $285 for potential members. The cost covers all supplies and certification fees.
Upon successful completion, students will be certified in American Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguarding 2017, First Aid, CPR-PR and AED. Students must be at least 15 years of age by the final day of class.
The YMCA will also offer an update and re-certification program for Red Cross waterfront lifeguards. All lifeguards who need to re-certify need to participate in an update due to changes to the program.
