FALCONER — The Southern Tier Builders Association Inc. has awarded its annual $1,500 scholarship award to Lindsey Thiel, a junior from upstate New York attending Alfred State College.

Thiel will graduate from Alfred State in 2018. She majors in Alfred State’s four-year construction management program. She was also just inducted into the Sigma Lambda Chi International Construction Management Honor Society at Alfred. To qualify, students must have completed 60 hours of college and maintained a 3.5 GPA or higher. Thiel also participates in athletics at Alfred State, where she is a three-year member of the cross country and track and field teams, she was a top finisher for Alfred State in every cross country race this season, named first-team All-Independent in 2016 and has been named numerous times to the USCAA All-Academic.

Timothy Piotrowski, an associate professor in Alfred State’s Civil Engineering Technology Department, said “she is a winner all-around.” Brad Walters, Southern Tier Builders Association executive director, said, “the association proud to have helped such an accomplished student like Lindsey and believes she will go on to serve the construction industry well.”
