EFNEP Program Advises Healthy Eating

Cornell Cooperative Extension Chautauqua County’s EFNEP Program would like to offer some ways to stay healthy. Good health is impossible without good nutrition. People may need to consider their intake of salt, fats and their portion sizes.

People should include fruits and vegetables in their diet, and vary what they eat. Select whole-grain foods when buying bread, cereals, pasta, or rice. These are richer in nutrients and fiber than the alternatives made from refined grains. Watch portions, eat small and lean portions of meat and poultry and try to eat fish a couple of times a week, if possible. Avoid sugar and solid fats.

The EFNEP Program is one of many programs offered by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County (CCE-Chautauqua). CCE-Chautauqua is a community-based educational organization, affiliated with Cornell University, Chautauqua County Government, the NYS SUNY system, and the federal government through the United States Department of Agriculture’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture. For more information, call 664-9502 or visit cce.cornell.edu/chautauqua. Cornell University Cooperative Extension provides equal program and employment opportunities.

Starting at $3.50/week.
