Lutheran Foster Grandparents Program To Receive Award

Chautauqua County District Attorney David Foley will present the Champion Of Children Award to the Lutheran Foster Grandparents Program on behalf of Child Advocacy Program at the CAP’s fifth annual Diamond Dinner Auction.

The fifth annual Diamond Dinner Auction will be held April 25 at the Athenaeum Hotel in Chautauqua Institution. Cocktails will be served at 6 p.m. with dinner served at 7 p.m. Tickets are $75 each or $500 for an eight-person table.

The Champion Of Children Award honors an individual, group or organization that has gone above and beyond the call of duty to protect, educate, support or mentor children. The Lutheran Foster Grandparents Program’s mission is to improve lives, strengthen communities and foster civic engagement through service and volunteering.

“I am blessed to work with the “best” people in the world,” said Debbie Basil, project director of the Lutheran Foster Grandparents Program. “Foster grandparents volunteers are mature adults, possessing a lifetime of wisdom and experience and a desire to help children be successful. I see wonderful results when an intergenerational approach takes place in an educational setting. FGP keeps older adults active and engaged, while nurturing, trust, providing caring and fostering the children they serve.”

Jana McDermott, Child Advocacy Program executive director, said agency officials look forward to honoring the foster grandparents for their work.

“We couldn’t be more excited to highlight the work of Lutheran Foster Grandparents Program with the Champion Of Children Award, as they support CAP’s vision for a community of happy, healthy children,” McDermott said.

Starting at $3.50/week.
