Special Celebration

For 40 years, The Coffee Exchange has met the needs of offices, restaurants and homes in Western New York and Northwestern Pennsylvania.

With new ownership, the business located at 701 W. Eighth St. is looking to continue the small, family touch that comes with the delivery of gourmet coffee and bottled water.

“It’s always been that,” said Dave Hawley, 31-year employee who recently bought the business and building with his wife, Nancy. “Even the former owner always made his employees feel like family. We’re just kind of furthering that.”

The Coffee Exchange is an office coffee service that began in 1976. The small, local business takes pride in their customer service and strives to offer clients and employees with quality coffee and related products.

Hawley started working for the company in 1985 as a part-time route driver. Employees at The Coffee Exchange include Hawley’s daughter Shannon McCue, who’s the sales manager, and son-in-law John Peterson, who’s the product destination coordinator. McCue recently graduated from Jamestown Business College after spending eight years in the Navy. McCue said the timing worked out as she graduated while her parents were in the process of purchasing the business and building.

“We’re hoping to put our touch to it and give it that small, family business feel,” she said. “Jamestown is full of small businesses. We try to emphasize that we have everything that can cater to a large business right down to that small intimate office for a single cup service system.”

The building in which The Coffee Exchange operates is also home to The Gift Exchange, which features country and vintage gifts, candles, collectibles, furniture and more. The store, operated by Nancy, is open Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Hawley said he’s looking to invest in the building that was once a boarding house from the late 1800s, a time when paddle boats, trains and trolley cars were rolling through the area.

“That’s another effort my wife and I are doing,” he said. “We’re slowly investing back into the building. We want the building to be nice once the Riverwalk is here.”
