There Really Is A Baby

The past week or so has been a whirlwind, my friends.

The newest addition of the Fuller family showed up five days late after she was given a forceful eviction notice, but better late than never. After two days of crazy circumstances, some pain and much help and support, Baby Girl made her way into the world.

I have to make mention of the nurse, Jerri, who helped me immensely during the birth of my child. She was an amazing comfort to both my husband and myself, and I appreciate her efforts so much. The WCA labor and delivery department as well as the maternity ward staff were amazing, and I cannot thank them enough.

My husband, the trooper that he is, was also a great support to me and I don’t know what I would’ve done without him.

My family and friends have also done so much, and I am so thankful for them as well.

The past several days have consisted of me remembering just how to take care of a baby, getting to know this new person God has given us and figuring out where I fit in all of this.

My oldest kiddo has taken well to the role of big sister, and is very much protective of her younger sibling. At one point, I had her sister asleep in my lap while we watched a video. All the sudden, she hopped up and ran over to the bassinet, looking frantic.

“I thought the baby was in here,” she said, glaring at me.

“She’s just on my lap, kid,” I said.

I was both proud and a little concerned all at the same time for two reasons: 1) I was proud that she was concerned about her sister, but 2) I was a little concerned that she thought I’d lose the baby, especially in our own house. “What kind of a parent do you think I am?” I asked, as she smiled sheepishly and shrugged.

It’s a learning process for us all, but I know that I wouldn’t change a thing. I am so thankful to be blessed with beautiful children, a kind and caring husband and caring friends and family. We’re finding our new normal — and picking up a few new stories along the way.

Tune in for the next saga — who knows what this bundle of joy will have in store for us!
