Anti-Bullying Film Festival Comes To Jamestown Community College

To educate against bullying and provide resources to the community, the Jamestown Pride Society will host a film festival Saturday at Jamestown Community College.

The Stop the Violence Film Festival aims to educate and inform area residents on issues such as bullying and violence that students currently face. This is the first event of its kind, and the Jamestown Pride Society has worked in partnership with many community organizations to make the festival possible.

The event will feature four award-winning films, including “Out in the Silence,” “Prayers for Bobby,” “A Girl Like Me” and “Bullied.”

All films focus around the difficulties young people face when bullied, and also address the difficulties of bullying as it applies to gender, sexuality and more.

Members of Infinity Visual and Performing Arts will perform, and the Jamestown High School videography department will also screen its documentaries during the event.

In between films, guest speakers and presentations will also be shown, including a presentation from the Western New York Anti-Violence Project, a speech by Gregg Rabb, president of the Jamestown City Council, a speech by Jason Perdue, president of the Jamestown Pride Society, and a presentation by officials of Gay and Lesbian Youth Services.

There will also be refreshments, vendors and information tables available to guests. Guests of all ages are invited to attend, and the event is free and open to the public. Popcorn is also free and unlimited to festival-goers.

The film festival will be held in the JCC Student Union, and will run from noon to 9 p.m. For more information, visit www.jamestownpride.com.

Starting at $4.00/week.
