Don’t Call Us – And We Won’t Call You

To the Reader’s Forum: At a time when COVID-19 cases are raging in our county, the Chautauqua County Department of Health has decided to end contact tracing. On Jan. 5, the Public Health Director stated, “You no longer should expect to receive a call from us, nor do you need to call us.” With 852 cases reported last week, the Department of Health decided there are too many to keep track. Instead of trying to “just do some,” they “just won’t do any.” In other words, they are abandoning public health. They have announced what people should do if they test positive. ...

As Time Marches On, What Are We Waiting For To Change Things?

To The Reader’s Forum: Well, 2022 is upon us. What I can’t figure out is why some people say “good riddance” to the prior calendar year. To me, “good riddance” is useful only when something, or someone bad ends or changes for the better. “Time”, including calendars, is a human creation; I suppose time helps make things orderly but, in reality, time is simply a continuum. To The Reader’s Forum: “Religious freedom is expanding,” said an editorial by Lindsay Lloyd (1/1). He resides not in New York where Governor Hochul arbitrarily issued an indoor public mask edict on everyone under the threat of a $ 1,000 fine. That’s freedom contraction, not expansion. Schutte, McCague Served Lakewood Residents Well To The Reader’s Forum: We write in appreciation of Lakewood Village Trustees Doug Schutte and Ted McCague whose terms of office end with the calendar year. Mayor Ballot Count Actions Appropriate

To The Reader’s Forum: The Nov. 24th editorial critical of Mayor Eddie Sundquist representing fellow Democrat Regina Brackman at the County Board of Elections absentee vote count and subsequent hand count of all ballots was off the mark. Councilwoman Regina Brackman asked Eddie, an attorney, to represent her and of course he agreed. Eddie has experience in vote counts and given that the absentee ballots added to the vote totals and were critical in the election of his fellow party member, it was obviously a good thing that an experienced lawyer represented Regina in Mayville. Lobby Representatives For To Approve New York Health Act To The Reader’s Forum: New Yorkers could have affordable and quality health insurance but politicians are standing in the way. Despite gaining majority support in both the New York State Assembly and Senate, the New York Health Act never made it to a floor vote in either chamber because of Democratic leadership.
