(UPDATED) Wrong-Way Buggy Struck On Interstate 86
KENNEDY — An unoccupied Amish buggy that was traveling the wrong way on Interstate 86 was struck by a semi tractor-trailer Sunday, the New York State Police said.
County dispatch had received several calls around 10 p.m. of the buggy in the eastbound lane of the interstate.
According to Capt. Eric Balon of the New York State Police, the buggy was traveling westbound in the eastbound lane when a semi struck the horse head-on. The horse was killed in the collision.
The owner told troopers that the horse had run off with the buggy before he could get the buggy hitched.
“The buggy was unoccupied when it hit the truck,” Balon told The Post-Journal. “The occupants of the truck were not hurt, but there was substantial damage and a small fuel leak.”
County HAZMAT crews responded to the interstate due to the leak.
Firefighters from Kennedy and Falconer, as well as county EMS crews, also responded.
