JCC Will Commemorate Arbor Day By Planting Tree

Jamestown Community College will plant a tree on May 1 to commemorate Arbor Day,

The public is invited to attend the event, which begins at 12:15 p.m. Participants are asked to meet by the pond located in the center of campus and walk to the planting location.

The tree planting is sponsored by JCC’s Earth Awareness Club and sustainability and tree committees.

JCC was the first community college in New York to be named a Tree Campus USA college and has maintained the designation for 10 consecutive years.

The Arbor Day Foundation is a nonprofit conservation organization of nearly one million members, with a mission to inspire people to plant, nurture, and celebrate trees. The Tree Campus USA designation, which is awarded by the Arbor Day Foundation, signifies a college’s dedication to campus forestry management and environmental stewardship.

The national observance of Arbor Day began in 1872.
