Bag & String Wine Merchants in Lakewood is celebrating its 10-year anniversary. The shop’s square footage has doubled in during that time.

LAKEWOOD — Bag & String Wine Merchants marked a milestone this past week — celebrating 10 years in business on Chautauqua Avenue in Lakewood.

In that time, owner Samuel Whitmore, has been able to double the shop’s square footage, making it possible to offer an expanding product line.

“Many things have certainly changed throughout the years,” Whitmore said. “However, we have never wavered in our focus on hospitality and unparalleled service as well as wine education and a selection which meets our customers’ needs and budgets. Those were the primary goals upon which the shop was started, and remain our guiding mission to this day.”

Responding to the challenges of COVID-19 in 2020, Whitmore and staff bolstered both the shop’s curbside pick-up and delivery services — while simultaneously streamlining the shopping experience with increased online ordering and the development of a shopping app for smartphones.

However, due to continued COVID-19 restrictions and safety protocols, there will not be any anniversary tasting event or gathering at this time.

Additionally, the store remains open for in-person shopping during the village’s road construction project on Chautauqua Avenue.
