Area residents shine at Empire State Senior Games

CORTLAND — Five area residents competed in track & field events at the Empire State Senior Games at SUNY Cortland last month. Suffice it to say, they made Chautauqua County proud. Leading the way was Kay Gould of Blockville. Competing in the 80-84 women’s division, Gould placed first in six events — the 50 meters (12.42), the 5,280-yard race walk (14:18.80), 100 meters (26.94), shot put (7.56 meters), discus (16.93 meters) and javelin (13.57 meters). Bemus Point 3-on-3 registration deadline extended

BEMUS POINT — Registration for the Bemus Point 3-on-3 has been extended. Participants in the basketball tournament, which will be held July 18-19 at Lakeside Park, can sign up until July 16. Games will be played on the four courts at Lakeside Park and the two courts at the Bemus Point Elementary School. The fee is $100. QUEENSBURY — Evan Steffen turned in quite a second round in the 103rd New York State Men’s Amateur Championships at Glens Falls Country Club on Wednesday. Playing out of Chautauqua Golf Club, the Pitt-Bradford standout fired an even-par 71, one of the best efforts of the day, but it wasn’t enough to make the cut.
