Week 5 of the Northwest Arena/Dot’s Gift Boutique Winter Backyard Curling League proved to be the most action-packed turnout all season.
BUD LIGHT MONDAY
5:40 LEAGUE
Shoeless Joe’s Pub is making a late-season push thanks to Rich Tyger and Joe Jackson. Although for these two, it was business as usual against CMC Cleaning 42-27 and Curling Hares 26-20.
Cold as Ice was the only other team to pick up a sweep Monday night. Sandy Everson and Michelle Ricker navigated them in close calls with Better Than Last Year 40-37 and The Rolling Stones 44-40.
Jody Lehman and Better Than Last year answered that loss by surviving Kubota Krew 36-35.
Emily Nelson and The Rolling Stones also rebounded versus Gemstones 41-30.
Ed Cramer and Fruit of the Brooms cruised by Gren’s Growlers 43-27.
Kubota Krew iced Curling Hares in overtime 56-54 with Sarah Casey delivering the deciding stone.
Shawn Williams and Curling Cousins overcame a slow start against TRCurlers 37-35.
Jim Nelson captained CMC Cleaning to victory once again over Drunken Sliders 29-24.
Kevin Anderson and TRCurlers split the night by defeating Gemstones 27-23.
Carol Moll, Doris Hale and Jimmy Shimmey’s shocked the world by upsetting Fruit of the Brooms 25-20.
BUD LIGHT MONDAY
6:40 LEAGUE
Frosty Curlers holds a three-way tie atop the standings with Dave and Sharon Ruby at the helm this week. After escaping Sip n Sliders 41-40, they shut the door on Rock Slide 39-25.
Bottomland Bandits clocked out with two wins as they stare down a grab for first place next week. Tyler Smith and Denton Holthouse made this possible by finishing off War Vets 29-21 and Pickle Pushers 24-18.
Dave Southwick, Dan Bowman and Tree Huggers hurdled a few teams in the standings. They were on the right side of tough battles with Stones 2.0 31-28 and Rand Machine 35-30.
Gene O’Conner and Alex Sullivan headlined the best Rookies Mafia outing this season. The night started out with a 60-33 rout of Sip n Sliders and it was then capped off with a 24-21 conquest of NAME.
Christine Baglia and Stones 2.0 knocked off Curl Jam 25-18.
Steve Arnold and Curl Jam remain in the mix for first after putting away Ice Holes 37-36.
Nick Rein and Slice Mafia made it an even tougher night for Ice Holes 31-28.
Kathy Geary and Pickle Pushers dispatched Rock Slide 28-18.
Brandon Watson and NAME doubled up Rand Machine 34-17.
Bob Maury guided War Vets to victory over Slice Mafia 36-21.
BUD LIGHT MONDAY
7:40 LEAGUE
Alex Calabrese and Aiden Melquist gave Stark Gravel a nice cushion in the standings. They’re still sitting on the throne after writing off Chillbillies 46-32 and Lakeshore Paving 51-34.
Rock Sliders have turned the season around 180 degrees after a shaky start. Derrick Martin and Jerry Feldt took no prisoners in Home Despots 34-19 and Chillbillies 27-23.
Dennis Palermo and Lakeshore Paving defeated their bitter rival Lakeshore East 40-34.
Joey Palermo and Lakeshore East responded by stomping Las Rocas Grandes 54-29.
Ryan Roush and Home Despots held off Frozen Assets 32-26.
Congratulations to Las Rocas Grandes for picking up their first win of the season. Kathy Stedman stepped up in the limelight to help take down Frozen Assets 38-24.
RAVEN & RUNE TAVERN WEDNESDAY 5:30 LEAGUE
Jeff Housler proved to be a one-man wrecking crew this week for 12 Ounce Curls. He carried the workload for two critical wins against We Love Beer 43-25 and Head for the Mountains 42-41.
Max Eimiller and Slone Melhuish have slowly been creeping towards the top. They’re now in striking distance after a sweep of We Love Beer 50-29 and Geriatric Curlers 47-42.
Bob Drake, who was placed on IR at the beginning of the season, is now back when Knuckle Draggers needed him the most. There was no rust to shake off as he flourished in matchups with J-1 Auto 51-46 and Stone Cold Maidens 34-23.
Matt and Jen Beebe starred in a rollercoaster night for We’ve Got the Stones. After upsetting Legion of Broom in OT 38-35, they survived a scare from J-1 Auto 42-38.
Finn Caswell collected his first MVP this season for MARKSMEN. He found his groove in wins versus Had a Few 35-31 and Ice Holers 38-22.
John Schwanke and Geriatric Curlers still hold the first-place tiebreaker after rolling Stone Cold Maidens 54-34.
Michelle Richau and Ice Holers squeaked by Legion of Broom 31-28.
Mike Latone Jr. and Head for the Mountains are still in good position after polishing off GWS 46-39.
However, Mary Bosek and GWS did not let the first loss phase them. Their squad is finally in the win column after disrupting Had a Few 46-36.
RAVEN & RUNE TAVERN WEDNESDAY 6:30 LEAGUE
All four teams in this league currently sitting at 8-2 mopped the competition this week.
Nick Kahanic and The Brush Offs made light work of 12 oz. Curlers 26-15 and Perfect Stones 39-33.
Curls Gone Wild charged past Stuart Tool & Die 25-20 and Ice Ice Baby 45-29 behind Ben Snow and Steve Ryberg.
In The House clocked out feeling good after taking down Smokin Rocks 43-26 and Ice Ice Baby 28-26 with George Panebianco and Ron Pappalardo paving the way.
Brandon Covey and Nate Donisi were surgical as Team No Names wrapped things up with Perfect Stones 47-31 and Stuart Tool & Die 31-20.
Got Stones has climbed to the middle of the pack thanks to Adam Paterniti and Howie McIntyre. They engineered massive victories for their squad over Curling Me Softly 21-19 and Margarita Madness 35-25.
Dylan Matteson and 12 oz. Curlers had no issues with Margarita Madness 32-22.
Jessica Peitrkiewicz and Smokin Rocks surged past Nuttin Buttons 40-26.
Colby Welker and Nuttin Buttons found their footing against The Ice Men 26-20.
RAVEN & RUNE TAVERN WEDNESDAY 7:30 LEAGUE
Tim Sturges, Christine Silzle and Stones & Cones have made their case for favorites to win it all. They’re now 10-0 on the year after demolishing Flintstones 60-32 and Copy Cats 29-12.
Tim and Kathy Hallquist gathered momentum for QUEST in victories over On the Rocks 32-31 and Six Stones & a Stick 47-23.
James Holzbron, Beth Hagglund and Haggy’s 4 Below waved goodbye to Hillbilly Sliders 35-16 and On the Rocks 38-35.
Marty Richau and Flintstones had a late counterpunch for Sub Zero 40-36.
Dan Currie Jr. and HCH Interiors pulled off the comeback against Barney’s Hoof Trimming 35-34.
Tammy Rea and Six Stones & a Stick defeated Rock Blockers in a 25-22 slugfest.
Mike Currie and Sub Zero cooled down the offense of Sheet Faced 31-18.
Jill Scott, Rachel Rollman and Sheet Faced turned the heat back up versus Barney’s Hoof Trimming 37-35.
Katy Lord and Hillbilly Sliders won a trench battle with HCH Interiors 26-18.
Kasie Foulk looked like a smooth operator for Copy Cats in their 32-24 conquest of Hit n Miss.
Julia Mead and Hit n Miss rebounded in their thrilling victory against Rock Blockers 37-34.

4:30 LEAGUE
Nick Lucas and Bob Paterniiti of Tracy’s Dog continue to lead the way to an undefeated season as the Dogs are 10-0 after taking care of the Bemus Sliders 47-43 and Sweeping Beauties 43-33.
Sweeping Beauties opened up their night, as Chuck Ludwig was calling out all the right shots, for their come-from-behind win over Cold Beer Here 48-44.
Cold Beer Here bounced back in their second game as Steve Tanner took no prisoners, in their 39-20 win over BA NA MA NA.
2 Cups & A Curl still only has one blemish on their record, as they racked up two more wins versus Frost Bitten Twice Shy 43-31 and the Bemus Boulders 51-23, as Hunter Whippo and Lauren Lapinski continue their stellar play.
Snow Good at This hit the century mark with their high scoring offense, downing the Bemus Boulders 51-42 and the Bemus Sliders 49-38, behind strong play from Anna Dibble and Leigh-Anne Hendricks.
Jeff Johnson was back on the ice to lead Curlews past Lions & Bears 43-38.
Lions & Bears bounced back in the second game with a tight win over Curl Jam 31-28, as Barb Lyon and Dawn Columbare found the house early and often.
Nancy Welker was as steady as can be, as her end racked up 8 points in all three ends to carry BA NA MA NA to victory over Curl Jam 36-25.
Frost Bitten Twice Shy found the win column again, as they knocked off Curlews in their second game 44-30, as Aric Smith slid his team to the win.
