Maple Grove Puts Up 35 Runs In Doubleheader Sweep

BEMUS POINT — Maple Grove improved to 5-4 overall and 4-2 in Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 2 play with a doubleheader sweep of Clymer/Sherman/Panama on Saturday.

The Red Dragons rallied from a 7-6 deficit with a 15-run top of the fifth inning to win the first game 21-7 in five innings before another five-inning victory, 14-4, in the second game.

In Game 1, Maple Grove led 6-1 after the top of the fourth before the Wolfpack (2-8, 2-5) scored six runs in the bottom of the frame to take a one-run lead.

For Clymer/Sherman/Panama, Rey Rodriguez led off the fourth with a walk and went to second on a balk before advancing to third on a groundout. After Rodriguez scored on a wild pitch, Ryland Posker walked and Gavin Burchanowski singled. After Posker scored, Max White hit an RBI single, Mason Groters hit an RBI double and Micaleb Anderson hit an RBI single to make it 7-6.

The lead didn’t last long. The Red Dragons’ Dom Danielson led off the top of the fifth with a single, Liam Price walked and Jaxon Kraft was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Kyle Yohe then drew a bases-loaded walk to force in the tying run ahead of Zeke Padd’s bases-clearing three-run double. Gavin Darr, Aleck Garrett and Aiden Dahlberg added RBI singles, Garrett tacked on a two-run single, three other runs scored on walks and errors plated two more runs before Maple Grove’s 15-run inning was over.

Kraft was 2 for 3 with a double, an RBI and four runs scored; Padd doubled, drove in four runs and scored twice; Darr went 2 for 3 with four RBIs and three runs scored; Dahlberg was 2 for 4 with three RBIs and three runs scored; and Garrett was 2 for 4 with three RBIs and a run scored.

For the Wolfpack, White was 3 for 4 with an RBI and two runs scored; Rodriguez was 3 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored; and Mason Groters doubled, drove in a run and scored a run.

In Game 2, the Red Dragons scored at least three runs in all four of their at-bats after falling behind 1-0.

Padd went 2 for 4 with a double, three RBIs and two runs scored; Yohe was 2 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs scored; Darr was 2 for 2 with two RBIs and two runs scored; Garrett was 2 for 3 with two RBIs; and Kraft scored three runs after being hit by a pitch three times.

Garrett tossed four innings of no-hit ball while striking out six and walking two.

For Clymer/Sherman/Panama, Burchanowski doubled and scored twice while Groters and Anderson each drove in a run.

SOUTHWESTERN CRUISES PAST GATORS

LAKEWOOD — A nine-run third inning helped Southwestern finish off a 17-0 five-inning Division 1 win over Allegany-Limestone at Packard Field.

In the third, George Marshall reached on an error, Alex Watkins singled and Gavin Anderson walked to load the bases before Michael Rambacher’s two-run single. Cooper Charles followed with an RBI single and a second run scored on the play after an error. Back-to-back walks to Oliver Stump and Lucas Genareo loaded the bases again before Wilson Genareo’s two-run double. Lucas Genareo also scored on an error on that play. With two outs, Wilson Genareo scored on a wild pitch and Marshall, who had walked, also scored on an error.

Lucas Genareo homered, drove in two runs and scored three times; Wilson Genareo doubled, drove in three runs and scored twice; Marshall went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and three runs scored; Rambacher went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and two runs scored; and Charles went 2 for 3 with an RBI and two runs scored for the Trojans (4-3, 4-2).

Charles tossed a five-inning one-hitter with seven strikeouts and four walks.

Nolan Zink had the lone hit for the Gators (4-10, 1-7).
