Wolfpack Fall To Panthers In Class C South On Friday
BOLIVAR — Jake Zeigler ran for a go-ahead 2-point conversion as Portville/Cuba-Rushford/Bolivar-Richburg beat Clymer/Sherman/Panama 22-20 in Class C South football Friday night.
The Panthers tied the game when Kingston Loucks caught a 24-yard touchdown pass from Zeigler in the fourth quarter. The Wolfpack appeared to block the go-ahead extra point, but were called for a penalty on the play. Portville/Cuba-Rushford/Bolivar-Richburg then elected to go for a 2-point conversion and Zeigler ran it into the end zone.
The win secured Class C South’s No. 3 seed in the Section VI playoffs for the Panthers while knocking Clymer/Sherman/Panama into the Chuck Funke Memorial Bowl.
“It was a must-win game to make the playoffs and we did not play our game,” Clymer/Sherman/Panama coach Dave Bodamer said. “We got outcoached and we also got outplayed. I do not feel we did enough to put the kids in a position to be more successful, especially on a night where there were some struggles.”
The Wolfpack took a 7-0 lead in the second quarter on a Sawyer Whitney 7-yard touchdown run, but the hosts tied the game before halftime when Loucks caught a 6-yard touchdown from Peyton Carter.
In the third quarter, Clymer/Sherman/Panama took a 14-7 lead on a 6-yard touchdown pass from Carson White to Kam Einink, but the Panthers again tied the game when Loucks caught a 7-yard touchdown from Carter.
Later in the third quarter, Einink caught a 25-yard touchdown from White, which gave the Wolfpack the lead until Loucks’ final touchdown and Zeigler’s subsequent 2-point run.
Carter went 6 of 9 for 95 yards and two scores with all three of Loucks’ catches going for touchdowns. Zeigler ran 28 times for 177 yards.
For Clymer/Sherman/Panama, White was 8 of 18 for 128 yards and two scores. Whitney ran 24 times for 101 yards while White added 49 yards on the ground. Einink caught four passes for 94 yards and two scores.
“We won the penalty battle on paper, but the big calls did not go our way, including in the red zone and the end zone,” Bodamer said. “I feel we should have still pulled this out. The boys gave me what they had tonight, and I feel for them.”
