Maggie Is NCCR Dog Of Week
Maggie, this week’s Northern Chautauqua Canine Rescue Dog of the Week, is a new arrival at the shelter. She was originally an area stray several years ago, and had been adopted out, but was returned due to difficulty adjusting to some recent changes in the home dynamic. Maggie is around 7-8 years old, thought to be a mix of Wheaten terrier and schnauzer. She is a nice medium size, around 30 pounds. She is great at the groomer and the vet, rides nicely in the car, is fully house and crate trained, and knows some basic commands. She usually gets along well with most other dogs outside the home, but prefers to be the only pet inside the home. Maggie can be a vocal barker at times. Both Wheatens and Schnauzers have historically been used as alert watchdogs and ratters, making them vocal and prone to barking at perceived threats, strangers or even squirrels. This behavior can be managed and minimized with training and adequate activity, but she probably isn’t cut out for apartment life with very nearby neighbors. Maggie is ready and waiting for a new kid-free, pet-free family.
