Trojans Remain No. 6 After Big Class C Football Win

The New York State Sportswriters Association still doesn’t know what to make of last week’s local results in Class C football.

Southwestern/Frewsburg remained No. 6 after beating Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Brocton 45-0 on Friday night in Mayville. The Trojans travel to Veterans Memorial Park to take on No. 19 Salamanca this Friday night. The Warriors dropped five spots to No. 19 after last week’s 28-8 loss to Portville/Cuba-Rushford/Bolivar-Richburg.

Eden/North Collins moved into the rankings at No. 20 after beating Medina 45-34 last week. The Raiders will host Cardinal O’Hara on Friday night. Portville/Cuba-Rushford/Bolivar-Richburg moved into honorable mention with its win over Salamanca and will head to Bill Race Field to take on Falconer/Cassadaga Valley/Maple Grove this Friday night.

Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Brocton, which dropped to an honorable mention after its loss to Southwestern/Frewsburg, will travel to the Orange Bowl to take on Fredonia this Friday while Clymer/Sherman/Panama remained honorable mention after beating Fredonia last week. The Wolfpack will host Springville on Saturday in Panama.

Also in Class C, Barker/Royalton-Hartland is No. 15 and WNY Maritime/Tapestry is an honorable mention. Section IV’s Chenango Forks is the top-ranked team in the state.

In Class D, Gowanda/Pine Valley and Randolph remained honorable mentions after last week’s victories. The Panthers, who beat Cattaraugus-Little Valley 36-16, will host Franklinville/Ellicottville on Friday night. The Cardinals, who beat Franklinville/Ellicottville 18-6, will travel to Wilson on Friday night.

Newfane is No. 4 and Wilson is No. 8 in Class D while the top-ranked team is Tioga of Section IV.

In Class AA, Jamestown remained honorable mention after losing 14-7 to No. 20 Bennett. The Red & Green travel to Riverside High School to take on Hutch Tech on Friday night.

Elsewhere in Class AA locally, Canisius is No. 9, St. Francis is No. 10, Lancaster is No. 25 and St. Joe’s is No. 27. Niagara Falls and Orchard Park are honorable mentions while Iona Prep of New York City’s Catholic High Schools League is No. 1.

In Class A, Health Sciences/Buffalo Academy of Science/Global Concepts is No. 7 and McKinley is No. 21. Clarence, Grand Island, West Seneca West, Williamsville East and Williamsville North are honorable mentions while the top-ranked team in the state is Section VIII’s Garden City.

In Class B, West Seneca East is No. 10, Williamsville South is No. 11 and Iroquois is No. 22 while Depew, Lackawanna, Olean and South Park are honorable mentions. Section IX’s Port Jervis is No. 1.

GIRLS SOCCER

Frewsburg moved up a spot to No. 6 while Randolph moved up three spots to No. 16 in the Class C rankings.

The Bears beat Silver Creek/Forestville and Westfield/Brocton before tying Southwestern last week. This week, Frewsburg beat Chautauqua Lake and Dunkirk. The Bears will return to action Monday at Bill Race Field in Falconer against nonleague Falconer/Cassadaga Valley/Maple Grove.

The Cardinals beat Franklinville and Ellicottville last week. This week, they beat Salamanca and Cattaraugus-Little Valley. Randolph returns to action next Wednesday in South Dayton against Pine Valley/Gowanda.

Also in Class C, Wilson is No. 17 and Section II’s Stillwater is No. 1.

In Class B, Southwestern dropped five spots to No. 25 after losing to Allegany-Limestone and Portville while also tying Frewsburg last week. This week, the Trojans beat Olean and tied Falconer/Cassadaga Valley/Maple Grove. Southwestern will return to action next Wednesday at home against Fredonia.

St. Mary’s of Lancaster is No. 1, Alden is No. 21 and Eden is tied with Southwestern at No. 25 in Class B.

In Class AAA, Lancaster is No. 22 and Section XI’s Northport is No. 1.

In Class AA, Clarence is No. 7, Frontier is No. 10 and Lockport is No. 23 while Section I’s Albertus Magnus is No. 1.

Starpoint is No. 11, Lewiston-Porter is No. 14 and Iroquois is No. 15 in Class A where Section V’s Aquinas is No. 1.

Section III’s Cincinnatus is No. 1 in Class D.

BOYS SOCCER

No teams in The Post-Journal/OBSERVER circulation areas are ranked in boys soccer.

In Class AA, Clarence is No. 6 and Williamsville East is No. 8 while Section XI’s Northport is No. 1.

In Class A, East Aurora is No. 2, Lewiston-Porter is No. 10 and Lackawanna is No. 15 while Section XI’s Shoreham-Wading River is No. 1.

In Class B, Lafayette is No. 6 and Medina is No. 14 while Westhill of Section III is No. 1.

Wilson is No. 2 and Allegany-Limestone is No. 9 in Class C where Section V’s Naples is No. 1.

Section V’s Fairport is No. 1 in Class AAA and Section V’s Fillmore is No. 1 in Class D.
