NIAGARA FALLS — When Jamestown head coach Tom Langworthy and his staff convene with their team today to watch film of their dismantling of Niagara Falls on Saturday afternoon, they will have another added responsibility besides assigning performance grades.
It will be a sweet one.
Literally.
Because, as is the program’s custom, the Red & Green players have always received candy for every turnover created. So based on what transpired at Art Calandrelli Stadium over the weekend, Langworthy’s crew could be excused if they ultimately experience a bit of a sugar high.
By picking off five passes, including three returned for touchdowns, and recovering two fumbles, Jamestown rolled to a 49-6 Class AA victory in a penalty-plagued game on an unseasonably warm and sunny day.

The win improved the Red & Green’s record to 4-3 overall and 3-2 in the division heading into this Friday’s regular-season finale against Lockport at Strider Field.
“We were right where we needed to be all day,” Langworthy said, adding, “We’re getting better at the right time of year.”
Especially on defense.
Alaric Richards and Jericho Thagard had pick-6s in the first half and Eligh DeLeon added one after the break; Drew Bloomquist and Chase Bonta had interceptions as well; and the Red & Green also recovered a pair of fumbles.
By halftime, Jamestown — winners of two games in a row by a combined score of 95-13 — led 35-0 as Richards, Bonta and Luis Diaz each found the end zone on short runs.
After the break, DeLeon experienced a lineman’s dream with his interception return for a touchdown and Diaz burst into the end zone for his second TD.
“About four weeks ago, I told our guys if any lineman intercepts a screen (pass) and returns it for a touchdown, they get a carry (on offense), because these guys always want to carry the ball,” Langworthy said, “so I owe DeLeon a carry.
“A big-man pick-six is pretty special.”
The Wolverines (3-4, 1-4), who played a portion of the game without starting quarterback Michael Taylor, averted the shutout when Armani Morris returned a kickoff 75 yards for a touchdown with just under five minutes remaining.
“Niagara Falls is a good team,” Langworthy said. “Today wasn’t their day, but I think a lot of it has to do with how physical we played. Our goal is to just start to peak at the end of the season and that’s where we’re trending.”
NOTES: Unofficially, Bonta finished with 56 yards rushing on 13 carries; Richards added 47 yards on seven trips; and Diaz collected 32 yards on seven carries. … Evan Maloney booted four successful extra-points and Bonta had one two-point conversion run. … Langworthy said that the Red & Green will be either a No. 3 or No. 4 seed in the upcoming Section VI Class AA playoffs and will have a home playoff game in the first round against an opponent to be determined. … The Wolverines, whose other losses came against Bennett (18-13), Orchard Park (28-22) and Lancaster (42-28), close out the regular season Thursday against Hutch Tech.
