DUNKIRK — Holding a narrow lead against the division champions, the Dunkirk boys basketball needed some clutch shots to keep Salamanca from coming back. Well, K’Vion Tell had the answer, hitting both of his free throws in the final 30 seconds of Tuesday’s game and the Marauders held on for the 59-57 upset victory to close out the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 season.

Tell finished with 12 points for the Marauders (7-12, 3-9), while Greg Orcutt led the way with a game-high 16 points. However, it was the depth scoring in a complete team effort that lifted the Marauders with Avery Krystofiak scoring 12 points and Malik McCall adding 10.

Salamanca (16-3, 10-2) was led by Maddox Issac and Avery Brown with 14 points apiece, while Jaxon Crouse had 13.

D4 SLIPS AWAY FROM HORNETS

ELLICOTTVILLE — The Forestville Hornets needed a pair of road wins at Ellicottville and Franklinville this week to secure a share of the Division 4 title.

However, that goal was cut short in game one with Ellicottville holding on for a 67-59 victory.

The Eagles (12-7, 9-3) were led by Carter Smith 15 points, seven rebounds, four assists, two steals and two blocked shots; Dominic Polino posted a double-double with 10 points and 10 boards; Blake Smith had 11 points, nine boards, four assists and five steals; Rylan Benjamin scored 13 points with three assists and two steals; and Maddox Johnson had seven rebounds.

Forestville received a 29-point effort from Jake Anders and William Duliba had 10 points.

The Hornets (13-5, 9-2) are back in action today in Franklinville and still have a chance to spoil the Panthers’ perfect league season.

GARCIA HITS 1K IN BROCTON WIN

BROCTON — Brocton senior Michael Garcia needed 29 points to reach 1,000 career points and in the third quarter on Senior Night he found himself one point away.

Garcia hit a 3-pointer in the third quarter which pushed him to the career milestone as he finished the contest with a game-high 31 points and a 67-41 nonleague victory over Cattaraugus-Little Valley.

Brocton (6-14) also received points from seniors Nathan Miller, Nathan Laurito, Jeremy Weisner and Anthony Cruz in the victory.

The Timberwolves (4-16) were led by Theron Crawford with 11 points.

SOUTH DAYTON — Carson White scored 24 points, and collected eight rebounds, four steals, two assists and a blocked shot to lift Clymer past Pine Valley 56-41 in nonleague play.

Roman Wassink added 13 points, six rebounds and four steals for the Pirates (10-10); Kameron Einink had nine boards and three assists; Blake Beckerink had three assists; and Jo Beckerink grabbed six rebounds.

Pine Valley (8-11) was led by James Greene with 15 points and Trent Ivett had 12.

CHEEKTOWAGA — Carter Brink registered 25 points, six rebounds, four steals and three assists as Class D Panama knocked off Class A Cheektowaga 64-54 in a nonleague contest.

Bryce Hinsdale added 12 points, eight rebounds, three assists and three steals for the Panthers (18-2); Alex Barmore collected 10 boards and a blocked shot; Tate Catanese had 11 rebounds; and Andrew Spiesman blocked a shot.

Cheektowaga (14-5) was led by Jerome Shanklin with 18 points.
