JCC Men’s Basketball Posts Pair Of Wins At The Post-Journal Classic
The Jamestown Community men’s basketball team erupted for 49 second-half points and breezed to an 82-54 NJCAA victory over Butler CC to complete a successful weekend in The Post-Journal Classic at the Physical Education Complex.
A day after defeating Sullivan County CC 84-76, the Jayhawks (4-8) had four players score in double figures, led by Joey Valerio, who had 16 points off the bench. Robert Russel added 13 points and 11 rebounds; Rederico Foddai added 13 points; and Marcus Wynter contributed 11 points and nine assists.
Butler County CC (1-5) was led by Terrance Pankey with 22 points and Brett Loughry with 11, but the visitors shot just 33% (18 of 55) from the field, including 26% (8 of 31) from the arc. Meanwhile, Jamestown CC shot 41% (27 of 66) from the floor, including 26% (6 of 23) from distance and held a 48-29 rebounding advantage.
In Saturday’s win, Wynter led five players in double figures with 22 points, six rebounds and five assists; Foddai added 16 points and six rebounds; Tamir Barrant added 13 points and eight boards; Russel contributed 12 points and seven rebounds; and Ilyass Kaichi scored 11 points.
Eric Jarecki led Sullivan County CC (0-7) with 28 points, Zyir Fowler had 22 and Kevin Rochez had 16.
WOMEN
JAYHAWKS WIN AGAIN
The Jamestown CC women shook off a slow start and downed Sullivan County CC 63-57 for their sixth win in seven games.
Jennica Berens led the way with 20 points, and Myla Truitt and Alyson Canfield each had 11 for the Jayhawks (6-2). Mbali Mhlanga pulled down 14 rebounds.
Allison Daniels had 17 points, Gracie Cruz added 11 and Amaya Jordan chipped in 10 for Sullivan County CC (3-2).
WRESTLING
JAYHAWKS HEAD TO NIAGARA DUALS
SANBORN — Jamestown Community College’s (JCC) wrestling team headed north for SUNY Niagara Friday night to take part in the Niagara Duals.
Several Jayhawks came away with a good showing in the competition.
Ryan Parton (141), Nicholas Ewan (149), and Christian Hernandez (174) all went 2-0 on the night.
Brad Smith finished 1-1 at 165 pounds.
Gavin Warner (133) and Garrett Spychala (133) both came home winless but have a chance to bounce back quickly with the Thunderwolves Open back at SUNY Niagara on Saturday morning.
