Upon Jamestown scoring its final touchdown midway through the fourth quarter of its Class AA football game Friday night, the linesman turned to the Red & Green sideline and asked, “Who is No. 15?”
Informed that it was Carson Panebianco, the man in the striped shirt nodded his head in acknowledgment.
And, it’s a pretty good bet that when Zack Panebianco — a first-team all-state player from a decade ago — was informed of his little brother’s performance in the regular-season finale, he nodded his head, too.
With pride.
Carson, a four-year member of the varsity, caught five passes for 98 yards and two TDs from quarterback Dom Gonzalez to highlight Jamestown’s 40-14 victory over Niagara Falls.

The win, their second straight, improved the Red & Green’s record to 4-4 overall and 3-3 in the division. The Wolverines, who are also 4-4 and 3-3, will return to Strider Field next Friday for the first round of the Section VI playoffs.
“We really felt after the Lancaster game we could feel a shift with the kids,” Jamestown head coach Tom Langworthy said. “Out of that game, we built some confidence and we’ve been continuing to emphasize that.”
For the record, Chase Bonta performed like he has all season, rushing for 200 yards on 36 carries and scoring on touchdown runs of 1, 14 and 4 yards, a week after amassing a school-record 373 yards and eight touchdowns in a lopsided win over Hutch Tech.
But with the postseason about to start, Langworthy has seen the Red & Green’s passing attack round into shape, too.
Panebianco, who has battled a few nagging injuries, appears to be hitting on all cylinders in a multitude of ways.
“He’s blocking linemen and then he can get out in routes,” Langworthy said. “(Opponents) really have to defend 12 guys. … It’s tough to find guys like that. Carson has that pass-catching pedigree, but he is also able to block and that is really important.”
Getting Panebianco the ball was Gonzalez, who turned in a fine all-around game, completing 7 of 8 passes for 132 yards. The two TD strikes to Panebianco were from 6 and 12 yards. Meanwhile, two of Gonzalez’s other completions were good for 42 yards to Panebianco and 33 yards to Ayden Samuelson.
“I think Dom has just continued to work hard and has really grown into that role,” Langworthy said. “With him being able to run and throw like he does really complements what we do. … I think we’re at a place where we have a really good identity offensively, we know what we want to be and the kids embrace it. This is Jamestown, we’re a blue-collar team and we’re a blue-collar town.”
The Wolverines, who trailed 27-0 at halftime, scored a pair of touchdowns in the third quarter on Michael Tayor passes of 15 and 32 yards to Jeremiah James and Darryl Smith, respectively.
The Red & Green’s second-half scores were courtesy of Cole Bloomquist’s 1-yard run in the third quarter and the Gonzalez-to-Panebianco 12-yard connection in the final period.
“Niagara Falls is a very talented team,” Langworthy said. “They really went toe-to-toe with everybody, and so we knew this would be a challenge, and I’m sure next week will be as well.”
NOTES: Defensively, Bloomquist led the way with 14 tackles and 1.5 sacks, Luis Diaz collected 13 tackles, Bonta had nine, Panebianco added eight and Tommy Pratton had six total tackles, a sack and a tackle for a loss. … In addition to his touchdown, Bloomquist rushed for 54 yards on eight carries, part of the Red & Green’s 333 yards on the ground.
