Jamestown to use new mobile parking payment system
Motorists in the city of Jamestown now have new options when it comes to mobile parking payments, though other options such as paying meters with coins are remaining the same.
The city has transitioned to a new parking payment platform following the expiration of the city’s contract with their previous parking payment vendor, Passport. As part of the standard process, the city sent out a Requests For Proposals, and selected the company T2 Systems as the successful bidder following a competitive review of available services, according to city officials.
“The new system replaces the previous Passport mobile app and provides two options for mobile payment,” city officials said. “Motorists may either scan the QR code displayed on the meter, which will direct them to the payment site, or text the phone number listed on the meter decal adjacent to the QR code, which will return a link to the same payment portal. Both options allow payment to be completed on a mobile device without downloading an application.”
Parking meters will continue to accept coins, and regular city parking regulations have not changed. Motorists that prefer the traditional option of paying coins may continue to do so at the meters, with payment required Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. No payment is required Saturdays, Sundays, or recognized holidays, and meters continue to accept nickels, dimes and quarters.
“To use the mobile option, motorists follow either access method and complete payment through the T2 platform,” city officials said. “Mobile payments include a third-party transaction fee collected by the payment provider; the city does not receive any portion of this fee. Motorists who wish to avoid this fee may continue to pay with coins at the meter.”
Officials also noted that this transition affects only the mobile payment platform, with the city’s parking rates, enforcement procedures, and posted time limits remaining the same.
“Motorists are reminded that parking regulations may vary by area and should always refer to posted signage to ensure compliance,” officials said. “The T2 platform is intended to provide residents and visitors with a more flexible and streamlined payment option, enabling quick payment via text or QR code, while preserving the existing structure and operations of the downtown parking system.”
