CANANDAIGUA – Teghan Trocki turned the Class C Far West Regional on its head Saturday evening.

The Frewsburg Bears are going to make a trip to the eastern part of the state because of her.

Trocki made eight 3-pointers, including a banked half-court shot to tie the game at the end of the third quarter, as the Section VI champions rallied from as many as nine down to beat Section V champion Dundee/Bradford 75-67 in the New York State Public High School Athletic Association quarterfinals at Finger Lakes Community College’s Putt Moore Gymnasium.

“I feel like this team puts in so much work year-round to get there, that they deserve to go,” Frewsburg head coach Sierra Beaver said. “If we didn’t win this game, it would’ve been a disappointment for sure.”

Coupled with younger sister Jadyn’s game-high 27 points, the Trockis sent the Bears into Thursday’s 6 p.m. state semifinal against Section II’s Duanesburg at Hudson Valley CC.

“It’s definitely a little bit of a relief to get the win,” Beaver added. “Our program has never been past this game, so to get that monkey off our back was huge.”

Jadyn Trocki scored 13 points, including three 3-pointers, during the first quarter as Frewsburg took a 23-17 lead Saturday, but the freshman went to the bench with an injury for a long stretch of the second quarter, which allowed the Bravescots to jump ahead 33-30 at halftime.

“Jadyn is super important to us. She creates a lot of things for us. Between her and Taytum (Jimerson), they do most of the ball handling for us,” Beaver said. “Jadyn had a little injury … and that allowed them to get back in it. … We struggled a little bit offensively while she was out.”

Dundee/Bradford eventually led 53-44 on Kendall Parker’s corner 3-pointer with around three minutes remaining in the third quarter before Frewsburg began its rally.

“At any point if you’re down, you are concerned,” Teghan Trocki said. “We knew we had it in us and we were going to keep fighting no matter what. We were going to keep going until that final buzzer.”

The Bears closed the third quarter on a 12-4 run that was capped by Teghan Trocki’s unlikely 3-pointer at the buzzer. After taking a pass from a teammate, the junior checked the clock before dribbling upcourt toward her basket. Near half-court, she spun away from a defender and hoisted up a shot that left her hand just before the buzzer and banked in off the backboard to tie the game at 57-all.

“I knew there wasn’t a ton of time,” Teghan Trocki said. “Jadyn was screaming at me to shoot it, so I kind of just turned and launched it, prayed a little bit, and it went in.”

“We practice half-court shots for Tim Hortons … we do it before every game. I owe Tim Hortons my life because they make so many,” Beaver said. “As soon as she made that shot, she looked at me and said ‘That’s Tim Hortons.’ … Whatever they want … I go get it.”

Teghan Trocki then opened the fourth quarter with three straight 3-pointers for her team and Jadyn Trocki followed with a bucket to make it 68-61 with 5:20 remaining.

“That’s what she does. She shoots the ball. We do a really good job of finding her,” Beaver said of Teghan Trocki. “It’s hard for teams to take her away because we have three other girls on the floor that can shoot it too.”

Dundee/Bradford never got closer than five the remainder of the way and Teghan Trocki put the icing on the cake when she nailed her eighth triple of the game with 1:07 left to make it 75-65.

“She plays in a lot of different gyms … a lot of different atmospheres. She doesn’t get rattled too easily,” Beaver said. “She takes so many shots that she just sticks with her form. She doesn’t change anything. She knows that if she’s missing a couple, it’s going to come back.”

Now Frewsburg, which lost two previous Far West Regionals, including one two years ago when current Bears Taytum Jimerson, Ava Jimerson and Teghan Trocki were freshmen, will play in the first state semifinal in program history.

“It’s crazy … we’ve been playing together since we were in third-grade 3-on-3 tournaments,” Teghan Trocki said. ” … Knowing the work we’ve put in is paying off is really cool.”

NOTES: Jadyn Trocki had five assists and three steals; Teghan Trocki had five rebounds and two blocked shots; Taytum Jimerson had 11 points, seven assists, six rebounds and three steals; and Ava Jimerson had 11 points, six rebounds and five assists for Frewsburg, which shot 26 of 54 from the field, including 13 of 24 from 3-point range, and turned the ball over 14 times. … Parker and Bruna Crespo scored 19 points apiece to lead Dundee/Bradford, which shot 27 of 60 from the field, including 5 of 20 from 3-point range, and turned the ball over 18 times. … Section I Tuckahoe and Section IV Moravia will play the 7:45 p.m. state semifinal Thursday in Troy.
