Allison O’Hanlon has accomplished just about all she can on a high school girls basketball court.
The Duanesburg senior is her school’s all-time leading scorer, holds the New York state record for career 3-pointers made and has committed to NCAA Division I Siena College to continue her academic and athletic careers next fall.
A three-time Section II champion, O’Hanlon has one box left to check on her resume: a New York State Public High School Athletic Association championship.
She’ll have that opportunity over the next two days as the Eagles play in the Class C state final four.
Standing in their way is Section VI champion Frewsburg.

Both programs — the top two in the state — will look to take the next step in their journeys to their first state championship when they meet at 6 p.m. today in the first Class C semifinal at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy.
“These last two days are the most focused I’ve ever seen them. The goofballs are still goofballs, but the super competitive ones are ready to go,” Frewsburg head coach Sierra Beaver said Tuesday evening. “We’re laser focused. To be able to keep that level of focus is impressive. They are all in and want to win.”
O’Hanlon-led Duanesburg is 20-5 on the season and is ranked No. 2 this week by the New York State Sportswriters Association.
The Eagles beat No. 8 Greenwich 57-43 in the Section II championship game, No. 19 Heuvelton of Section X 69-50 in a subregional and No. 25 Moriah of Section VII 51-29 in the state quarterfinals.
O’Hanlon is averaging 26.8 points per game — 50.1% of her team’s total this season.
“No. 30 is big, she’s strong and she’s fast,” Beaver said of O’Hanlon. “She can handle the ball, and pull up and hit a 3.”
Frewsburg can put up points with the best of teams.
The Bears are 21-3 on the season and averaging 69.7 points per game while allowing just 41.
Freshman Jadyn Trocki leads Frewsburg in scoring at 20.3 points per game while her junior sister Teghan averages 14.7. Junior twin sisters Ava and Taytum Jimerson average 12.7 and 10.4 ppg, respectively.
The Bears beat Ellicottville 71-36 in the Section VI final and Dundee/Bradford 75-67 in Saturday’s Far West Regional at Finger Lakes CC.
“I didn’t feel like our on-ball defense was very good whether it was man or zone, we were closing out too aggressively,” Beaver said of her team’s quarterfinal performance against the BraveScots. “We didn’t do a very good job of boxing out and getting a body on people. Those were things we’ve worked on this week to try and improve upon.”
The 7:45 p.m. semifinal today in Troy will feature No. 3 Moravia (21-3) of Section IV against No. 25 Moriah (11-11) of Section VII. Today’s winners will play in the state championship game Friday at 5:15 p.m.
“I’ve only watched film on Duanesburg. I have some friends and coaches who have watched film on Tuckahoe and Moravia so they could give me some background,” Beaver said. “My plan on the ride out is to watch some film on those other two teams. We obviously plan on staying and watching them (tonight) if we win as well.”
CLASS B
Friday morning at 9, a team of girls from Southwestern will do something they have never done before: play in a state semifinal basketball game.
And they’ll do it in front of a crowd that likely isn’t in their favor.
The Trojans (18-7), ranked No. 3 this week by the New York State Sportswriters Association, will take on No. 1 Albany Academy in the New York State Public High School Athletic Association final four at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy.
Southwestern head coach Kay Sirianni hopes last weekend’s 63-61 win over Section V champion Hornell in front of a pro-Red Raiders crowd at Finger Lakes CC in Canandaigua prepared her team for what could be a hostile environment Friday.
“I think that probably benefited us. The Hornell crowd was excellent. They were loud, they were vocal,” she said Wednesday evening. “The girls need to tune that out and focus on the floor. We definitely are going against a big Albany crowd. The girls have to focus on my voice, focus on each other and play as a team.”
Albany Academy (21-3) — located just 8.8 miles from HVCC’s McDonough Sports Complex — is averaging 63.6 points per game this season while allowing 36.7.
The Bears beat Mechanicville 59-29 in the Section II championship game before a 46-30 subregional victory over Section VII Saranac and a 45-21 regional win over Section X Gouverneur.
“It’s a team we feel we can play with. We’ve earned our right to be at this level, too,” Sirianni said. “We’re here for a reason and it should be a really good game.”
Alex Leonard, a 5-foot-8 sophomore, and Bella Vincent, a 5-foot-10 senior, are two of Albany Academy’s top players.
“They are very talented. They are fast. They love to penetrate the paint and kick for outside shots. I think they are really well-rounded,” Sirianni said. “They’ll press most of the game if they’re successful at it. … We know we are up against a good team, which we should be at this level.”
Southwestern has won 17 of 18 games since starting the season 1-6. The Trojans are led by senior Reece Beaver, Chautauqua County’s all-time leading scorer and a Daemen University commit, who is averaging 27.3 points per game.
The Trojans beat East Aurora 52-26 in the Section VI Class B1 final before beating Portville 58-43 in the Class B crossover game.
Last Saturday against Hornell, Southwestern trailed 21-7 after the first quarter and 42-26 at halftime before a second-half comeback.
“It could’ve been partly the crowd, but I really think it was just nerves being at a place we hadn’t been before,” Sirianni said of her team’s slow start. “You had a game where, if you win it, you are going to states. Those nerves took a little bit to relax.”
Beaver scored a career-high 42 points, including the game-winning basket with just over 2 seconds remaining, on 22-of-45 shooting that included five 3-pointers. Beaver took 45 of her team’s 65 shots and scored 66.7% of their points.
“I’m hopeful the other players on my team can be successful early on to take that pressure off of Reece. We have to make it so Albany feels they have to guard four other players on the court; that frees up Reece to be able to play her game,” Sirianni said. “I’m looking for big games from our seniors who’ve been here for four years, and obviously Bella and the other girls who get in there, too.”
Friday’s 10:45 a.m. Class B semifinal will feature No. 2 Utica Notre Dame (22-3) of Section III and No. 12 Putnam Valley (18-7) of Section I.
“They are so excited. The community has been great bringing in treats, Busti Tap House (hosted) a team dinner for us (Wednesday). The elementary school did a sendoff,” Sirianni said. “The girls have had a lot of excitement. They are just really happy to be heading out there, but we’re looking for a win for sure.”
