Curling Leagues
Week 4 of the Northwest Arena Winter Backyard Curling Leagues sponsored by Dot’s Gift Boutique was filled with all kinds of game-winners and upsets as everyone starts to hone in on championship trophies.
MONDAY 5:45 LEAGUE
Brewster’s Bros. could be on their way to a double-digit win season after their performance this week. William Louchers and Nick Rein advanced the Bros. past Scoreless Hacks 38-34 and Fruit of the Brooms 29-25.
Chad Waddington and Tonie Wirsen were able to grind out a couple victories for Shoeless Joe’s Pub. They had to resist Pepsi 2 25-23 and Pepsi 1 21-20.
The Cheese Curls took down 12 Ounce Curls 26-20 to kick things off. Then, Alyssa Porter and Noel Blackhall copied and pasted that performance for another 26-20 result against Scoreless Hacks.
Glass House Gang broke even at .500 thanks to Mike Stevenson and Tim Bonner. Things were clicking on all cylinders versus Rowers on Ice 21-16 and Pepsi 2 39-34.
TRCurlers had their best night of the season so far. Bruce Main captained them to a perfect outing against Curl Jam 46-39 and Fruit of the Brooms 32-26.
Jeff Housler and 12 Ounce Curls pulled off a dogfight with Curling Me Softly 20-18.
Julie Fye put up massive numbers the second time around for Curling Me Softly in their 48-36 conquest of Rowers on Ice.
After a slow start, Rachel Johnson got things moving for Curl Jam to bring down Legion of Broom 27-24.
Dave Michener and Pepsi 1 also had their way with Legion of Broom, 18-13 the final in a trench battle.
MONDAY 6:45 LEAGUE
Sour Pickles at 8-0 are now at least three games ahead of the competition in the standings. Katie Stronz and Sue Arnold could not be stopped in their matchups with Tree Huggers 22-16 and Chill Seekers 36-27.
Snow Good at This is back on a winning track because of Chris Johnson. He steered things in the right direction to hold off Team Auto Credit 19-18 and topple Tree Huggers 46-34.
Pickle Pushers acquired two victories as a result of stellar play from Nancy White and Kathy Geary. The two merged their powers to fend off Rock Slide 18-17 and The Cold Snap 27-21.
Steve Arndt put LaMancuso-Arndt in his backpack for the night and it led to great things. He carried the load to cruise by Lakeshore Paving 38-18 and The Cold Snap 28-16.
Stark Gravel survived a nail-biter with Glass House Gang 20-19 behind Mike Peterson.
Kim Spillman and Team Auto Credit shut down Frozen Fish 17-8.
Wade Nelson was able to defrost his team so Frozen Fish could do the same to Rock Slide 14-9.
Ryan White piloted things on the ice for Chill Seekers to pull away from Lakeshore East 28-17.
Zach Liden anchored things down for Lakeshore East. They made a tough night worse for Glass House Gang 19-8.
Mark Lindstrom and Lakeshore Paving completed the monumental upset over Stark Gravel 33-21.
STEVE CHAMBERS/JAMESTOWN HONDA WEDNESDAY 5:30 LEAGUE
Ned and Jen Baudo found a way to keep the night afloat for Drunken Sliders. They were able to sneak past Hindy’s Hurlers 24-20 and Stone Cold Maidens 24-19 to remain in first.
Jennifer Bebee and Kathy Rossey assembled a nice surge for We’ve Got the Stones. They united their skill sets to take down Girls with Stones 37-27 and J-1 Auto 20-18.
Knuckle Draggers witnessed Bob Drake emerge as a rising star. He engineered both victories over Had a Few 34-33 and Rolling Stones 33-17.
It was easily the best outing of the year for We Love Beer; this was a result of the play from Jeff Blair and Justin Kell. They turned the season around for their team in wins against Henry James 22-19 and Hackin Up Stones 32-24.
Gary Dove and Geriatric Curling Machine eventually closed the door on Head for the Mountains 31-29.
Zach Agett propelled the rebound for Head for the Mountains, 35-32 was the final over J-1 Auto.
Sandy Stimson and Rolling Stones found a way to disarm Geriatric Curling Machine 29-18.
Hackin Up Stones found a nice groove offensively against Girls with Stones. Matt Stromer led the attack for the 38-31 victory.
Seth Johnson and Henry James put together a statement 40-20 win over Stone Cold Maidens.
Had a Few picked up quality momentum heading down the stretch. Amy Youngberg paved the way to shock Hindy’s Hurlers 30-26.
STEVE CHAMBERS/JAMESTOWN HONDA WEDNESDAY 6:30 LEAGUE
Ron Pappalardo and George Panebianco have kept things churning for In the House all season long. They avoided potential upsets versus Perfect Stones 24-18 and Curling Q’s 21-15.
Curls Gone Wild put the league on notice with their eventful night. Steve Ryberg iced things against Rand Machine 33-32 with the overtime game-winner. To cap things off, Mark Snow put away Curling Q’s 32-24.
It was a gritty outing for 12 oz. Curlers and Justin Swanson. He anchored things down defensively to win trench battles with The Ice Men 9-8 and The Rolling Stones 15-11.
Congratulations to HALLFAW, who was winless until their perfect evening. Tammy Hallquist and Cindy Fawcett were edged in curling history after defeating Team No Name 27-26 and Got Stones 25-24.
Team No Name shocked the league by handing the Brush Offs their first tally in the loss column. Cade Egan was the star who made the 24-19 upset possible.
Jen Swanson was on a warpath for vengeance. She picked up a 22-20 victory over Smokin Rocks after nailing the game-winner in extra time.
Molly Gustafson and The Ice Men stifled Perfect Stones 21-15.
Dan Challingsworth clamped down Curling Me Softly for the 19-12 conquest in the name of Rand Machine.
Travis Higgs and Got Stones cruised by The Rolling Stones 25-13.
Curling Me Softly escaped the wrath of Smokin Rocks 24-22 behind Heidi Pillittieri.
STEVE CHAMBERS/JAMESTOWN HONDA WEDNESDAY 7:30 LEAGUE
The Dot’s Men are back on track thanks to Dan Davis and Bryan Olson. They fused their powers to vanquish UPMC 32-20 and The Flintstones 32-27.
Bill and Sandy Everson constructed a perfect evening for Cold as Ice. They began things by disconnecting Game of Stones 31-16. Succeeding that was a 25-21 upset of 12 oz. Curlers, giving them their second loss.
Mike and Dave Currie engineered the best night of the season for Sub Zero. They had to grind out wins toward the end with Ice & Easy 19-18 and Barney’s Hoof Trimming 27-26.
Haggy’s Jr. Curling was the second team this week to go from winless to an undefeated night. Beth Hagglund carried the workload in their ambushing of Curl Power 31-21 and Curling Queens 23-9.
It was the Curling Queens who gave the initial loss to 12 oz. Curlers 25-16 Kristin Santana was the celebrity who helped deliver the result.
Heather Williamson and UPMC assembled a solid 23-17 victory over Six Stones and a Stick.
Brian Westerdahl rallied the troops to split the night. Six Stones and a Stick eventually held off Shawbucks 23-20.
Darren Hoovler used that loss as fuel. Shawbucks would rebound in their matchup with Ice & Easy 29-17.
Jim DiFonzo and Barney’s Hoof Trimming strolled past Game of Stones 37-24.
Brandon Rounds and The Flintstones survived Curl Power 18-17 down the stretch.
RYAN DEPPAS/LEGEND GROUP 4:30 FRIDAY LEAGUE
Zach Haller continues to lead 2 Curls & 1 Cup through their undefeated season with two more victories over Ba Na Ma Na 25-16 and Button Blasters 32-24.
Sweeping Beauties had a good night going 2-0 as Judy Briggs and Chuck Ludwig had their A game to defeat Curlews 46-31 and Frost Bitten Twice Shy 31-22.
Seminar Group remained in third place as they captured two wins over On the Rocks 32-26 and Curl Jam with stellar play from Wayne Rishell and Eric Maloney.
Cold Beer Here is right on the heels of 2 Curls & 1 Cup, raising their record to 7-1 with two wins over Curl Jam 30-21 and the Bemus Sliders 42-30. They were led by Steve Tanner and Bill Lawson.
Curlews slid their way past Tracy’s Dog 35-32 to earn their first victory of the year as Jeff Johnson showed off the fancy stickwork.
Brenda Degnan captained her team to victory over the Button Blasters 38-29.
Nancy Welker was Ba Na Ma Na’s first star as she led her team past the Bemus Boulders 34-29.
The Bemus Boulders opened up their night with a 37-30 win over the Bemus Sliders as Holly Sullivan was the Boulders leading curler.
Jenna Rauh-Whitney found the house multiple times to carry On the Rocks to victory over Lions and Bears 34-30.
