Jamestown Pulls Away From Williamsville North Late

WILLIAMSVILLE — The Jamestown boys basketball team went on a 13-6 run in the final two minutes en route to a 75-65 victory over Williamsville North in an Erie County Interscholastic Conference Division 1 basketball game Friday night.

Sparking the rally were back-to-back-to-back 3-pointers — two by Jaydian Johnson and one by Dominic Gonzalez that transformed a 62-59 Red & Green lead into a 71-59 advantage with just over a minute remaining.

Johnson finished with 25 points and five assists; Elijah Farmer added 17 points and six rebounds; Bishop Butts scored 12 points and brought down seven rebounds; and Gonzalez chipped in 11 points and four assists for Jamestown (12-2, 5-0).

Until the Red & Green’s late surge, however, the Spartans (5-7, 1-2) were in position to steal a win as they scored seven straight points to trim Jamestown’s lead to 62-59 following a drive to the basket by Stash Foster (29 points) with 2:24 remaining. But Johnson drilled consecutive 3-pointers followed by another trey by Gonzalez to finally give the Red & Green some breathing room.

“They were able to hit them at crunch time,” Jamestown coach Billy Miley said. “It’s always tough at Williamsville North. “(Coach Chuck Swierski) always gets the kids to play really hard. They certainly did that tonight and made it hard for us.”

Joining Foster in double figures for the Spartans was David Hare with 21 points.

The Red & Green return to action Monday when they travel to Clarence.
