Frontier Girls Trim Red & Green 55-54

Alyson Canfield put on a show Wednesday night, but the Jamestown girls basketball team couldn’t quite close out its Erie County Interscholastic Conference Division 1 game against Frontier at McElrath Gymnasium.

Canfield poured in 30 points, including Jamestown’s first 14 in the first quarter, but Brookelyn Vicaretti hit one of two free throws with six seconds remaining and the Falcons held on for a 55-54 victory.

The loss dropped the Red & Green to 4-6 overall and 0-3 in the division.

“They played really hard,” Jamestown coach Ken Ricker said. “I think it was a growing experience for us. Alyson made seven 3-pointers and seven of eight from the line. She really stepped up and made some huge shots. There’s no doubt the young kids are learning a lot about how she carries herself.”

In addition to her 30 points, Canfield grabbed 14 rebounds and had four steals. Aiyanna Stam added 12 rebounds and Anna Engquist grabbed 10 for the Red & Green, who are back in action Sunday against Hamburg at SUNY Fredonia.

Paris Izzo led the Falcons with 23 points and Vicaretti chipped in 13.
