Golden Falcons Sweep Rams In Class C1 Semifinals

FALCONER — No. 2 Falconer swept No. 3 Royalton-Hartland 25-12, 25-20, 25-13 on Monday to advance to the Section VI Class C1 finals.

Hannah Melquist paced the Golden Falcons with 20 assists, 13 kills, 10 digs and four aces; Mylie Zaranek contributed nine kills, six aces, 11 digs and four assists; Ashley Smith put up eight kills and a block; Nylah Sharpe had 20 digs and four assists; Augustine Krenzer recorded three kills, three assists, seven digs and two aces; and Brynn Zaranek added four aces.

Falconer will play defending state champion, No. 1 Portville, at Southwestern on Wednesday at 5 p.m.

TIGERS OUTLASTS FREDONIA

AKRON — The top-seeded Akron Tigers outlasted No. 4 Fredonia in the Section VI Class B2 volleyball semifinals in five sets by scores of 17-25, 25-18, 22-25, 25-14, 15-13 on Monday.

Fredonia finishes its season with an overall record of 6-12, while Akron advances to Wednesday’s final at Sweet Home High School against No. 2 Southwestern.

TROJANS HEAD TO FINALS

Southwestern swept Olmstead 25-10, 25-14, 25-8 to advance to the Section VI Class B2 finals.

Lauren Cotter led the Trojans with 10 kills, seven aces, an assist, a dig and a block; Jaidyn Newhouse contributed five aces and five kills; Bella Sirianni made 19 assists, a dig and four aces; and McKenna Bogdanowicz added four aces.

The Trojans will play against No. 1 Akron in the final at Sweet Home High School on Wednesday.

PANTHERS PUNCH FINALS TICKET

GOWANDA — No. 4 Gowanda rolled No. 8 Cassadaga Valley in three sets 25-15, 25-10, 25-10 in the Class C2 semifinals.

Holland Browning paced the Panthers with nine kills, six digs and two blocks; Addison Kota put up five kills, an assist, an ace, eight digs and a block; and Jillian Gernatt added three aces, 25 assists and six digs.

Gowanda will play against No. 2 Randolph for the Class B2 title on Wednesday at Southwestern.

Cassadaga Valley ends its season with a 3-17 record.

RANDOLPH CLINCHES FINALS BERTH

RANDOLPH — No. 2 Randolph rolled out a dominant sweep of No. 3 Silver Creek by scores of 25-11, 25-11, 25-8 in the Class C2 semifinals.

Eve Adams led the Cardinals with 22 kills and seven digs; Donnilynn Sheldon contributed four aces, six kills, two digs and a block; and Allie Conley had four kills, three aces, an assist and six digs.

Randolph plays No. 4 Gowanda for the sectional title on Wednesday at Southwestern at 7 p.m.
