All season long it was a three-team race for first place in the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 East softball league among Randolph, Silver Creek and Gowanda. With the Cardinals taking first place just ahead of Silver Creek and Gowanda, it comes to no surprise that those teams had several players receive praise.

Silver Creek senior pitcher Kaylee Hutchison earned top honors as the Player of the Year, leading the Black Knights to a 7-4 league record from the circle and with her bat at the plate. Over 86 2/3 innings from the circle, Hutchison struck out 173 batters, maintained a 2.58 ERA and held opposing batters to a .189 batting average. She was just as impressive from the plate with a .571 average, 24 RBIs, two doubles, five triples, three home runs, 18 stolen bases and she scored 26 runs.

Randolph senior pitcher Kendall Steward earned the league’s second-highest honor, being selected as the Pitcher of the Year. Steward pitched the Cardinals to a 9-1 record to win the league title with 118 strikeouts, a 0.215 ERA and 0.446 WHIP. She was just as strong at the plate boasting a .514 average, 1.438 OPS, seven doubles and three triples.

Joining Steward as first-team all-stars from the league champion Cardinals are seniors Kyra Pence and Harper Smith. Just behind Steward in average was her batterymate Smith hitting .407, she had a 1.024 OPS with two doubles. The senior shortstop Pence maintained a .333 average, .860 OPS, a double and a triple.

Hutchison was joined by another two Black Knights in eighth grader Rylee Weiskerger and junior Laneya Olsen. Catching for the Black Knights was Olsen and she hit .314, 0.912 OPS, 13 RBIs and five doubles.
