Jayhawk men 10th after first round

CHAUTAUQUA — The first rounds of the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III Men’s and Women’s Golf National Championships hosted by Jamestown Community College are in the books at Chautauqua Golf Club.
On the men’s side, Jamestown CC sits in 10th overall with a team score of 42-over par. The top-scoring Jayhawk was Kyler Wojtowicz, who carded a 79 on the par-72 course, good enough for a tie for 24th of the 78-golfer field. Behind the freshman for JCC are Reid Olsen (81), Cole Johnson (84), Jaxson Faulk (86) and Zach Johnson (97).
On top of the team leaderboard are the Sandhills CC Flyers, who picked up where they left off the last few years with a 6-over to have a 6-shot lead after 18 holes.
Individually, Jack Morgen of CC of Morris leads the way with a 2-under. He is followed by Vegas Melen, the defending national champion, who shot a 1-under 71.
Flipping to the women, Jamestown CC’s Cadence Rodgers resides in 22nd of 32 after shooting a 104. The ladies’ leader is Sarah Wang of Oxford-Emory after shooting a 7-over. The team leader is currently the College of DuPage, which has a four-player total of 62-over.
Round 2 tees off bright and early today with the ladies having honors as they hit Chautauqua Golf Club for 8 a.m. starts.
