Marley Drake Named To All-ECIC, ECIC Div. 1 First Teams

Marley Drake turned in one of the finest careers in Jamestown High School girls basketball history.

She saved her best for last.

The senior guard, who averaged 22.8 points, surpassed the 1,000-point barrier for her career and is in sixth place on the state’s all-time 3-pointers-made list (262), received high marks from her Erie County Interscholastic Conference peers for the 2022-23 season as well.

In balloting of league coaches, Drake was an All-ECIC Division 1 First-Team and All-ECIC Large School Team selection in leading the Red Raiders to the Section VI Class AA championship game. In 23 games, Drake scored 517 points, made 105 3-pointers, grabbed 99 rebounds, collected 74 steals and dished out 54 assists. More specifically, she led Section VI in 3-pointers made and was fifth in points. For her career, she scored 1,288 points, which is fourth all-time in Jamestown history.

Second-team ECIC Division 1 selection Kylie O’Brien, a senior, scored 297 points, hauled down 364 rebounds, collected 43 steals and 21 assists, and blocked seven shots. Senior Mickia Freeney and junior Alyson Canfield earned ECIC Division 1 honorable mention. Freeney scored 214 points, dished out 137 assists, collected 119 steals, grabbed 162 rebounds, and made 26 blocks and 19 3-pointers, while Canfield scored 311 points, including 63 3-pointers, hauled down 151 rebounds, made 43 steals and dished out 11 assists.

Joining Drake on the ECIC Division 1 First Team are sophomore Player-of-the-Year Maddie Francis of Lancaster; senior Miranda Burgett of Williamsville North; senior Rachel Kamrowski of Lancaster; and seniors Hannah Farley and Ella Corry, both of Clarence. Farley was also the recipient of the Sportsmanship Award.

Joining O’Brien on the ECIC Division 1 Second Team are sophomore Halle Senfield of Orchard Park; seventh-grader Mila Bissett of Williamsville North; senior Mia Brown of Frontier and senior Brooke Bauer of Lancaster.

Members of the All-ECIC Large School Team, besides Drake, are senior Gretchen Dolan of Williamsville South, who is the Player of the Year; senior Clara Strack of Hamburg; Francis of Lancaster; Burgett of Williamsville North; and senior Lauren Hubert of Sweet Home.
