CLARENCE — Sean Paige hit a floater in the lane in the closing seconds to send Jamestown to a 59-58 victory over Clarence in an Erie County Interscholastic Conference Division 1 basketball game Thursday night.

“I felt that after the game we certainly escaped with one,” Red Raiders coach Ben Drake said. “Winners win and we found a way to win tonight. Give Clarence credit, they played very hard. We know every night in our league we’re going to get everyone’s best effort.”

Speaking of “best effort,” Paige is providing that regularly of late.

The senior scored a game-high 19 points to go along with 10 rebounds, four steals and three assists to help Jamestown improve to 13-2 overall and 8-0 in the division.

“He’s really playing at the top of his game right now,” Drake said. I’m really proud of Sean how he has come along this year. He’s been very coachable and has a very good attitude. He’s been a great teammate.”

Trey Drake added 17 points and Jaydian Johnson contributed 13 points, four assists and three steals for Jamestown, which took advantage of the Red Devils’ struggles at the foul line down the stretch to complete a sweep of the regular-season series.

Leading the way for Clarence (7-7, 3-5) were Sean Gilmartin with 18 points and Grayson White with 14.

The Red Raiders return to action at 5:15 p.m. Saturday when they take on Bishop Timon at Hamburg High School.
