In two regular-season meetings with Orchard Park, the Jamestown girls basketball team swept both games.

By a total of seven points.

Friday night was a different story.

Senior Kylie O’Brien scored 21 points and grabbed 15 rebounds; junior Alyson Canfield and senior Marley Drake each had 17 points; and senior Mickia Freeney scored 11 points to go along with 11 rebounds, 10 steals and seven assists as the third-seeded Red Raiders knocked off the sixth-seeded Quakers 70-54 in a Section VI Class AA quarterfinal game at McElrath Gymnasium.

The win vaults Jamestown (14-5) into the semifinals against No. 7 Frontier (11-9), which upended No. 2 Lockport 62-48, at 7 p.m. Thursday at Sweet Home High School.

Last night’s game was close throughout most of the first half, but Jamestown finished the second quarter on a 9-3 run, capped by Canfield’s 3-pointer from the corner with four seconds remaining before the break. Armed with a 36-24 lead, the hosts opened the second half on an 8-1 surge, highlighted by an O’Brien layup on a nifty pass from Freeney; a Canfield drive; and a Drake 3-pointer.

Their lead now 18 points, 44-26, Jamestown stayed in control the rest of the way, setting up a matchup with Frontier. The Red Raiders swept both regular-season contests, but the games were close (59-56 and 54-49).

Should Jamestown play like it did for most of last night’s game, it will be tough to beat.

The other semifinal game on Thursday will pit No. 1 Lancaster against No. 4 Clarence at 5:30 p.m. at Sweet Home High School. The Legends, the defending sectional champions, advanced by dispatching No. 8 Niagara Falls 81-45 last night while the Red Devils downed No. 5 Williamsville North 67-55.

NOTES: Halle Senfield led the Quakers with 21 points, Lainey Babich had 11 and Maggie Gocella chipped in 10.
