Section I was second with 283. East Aurora was the team champion with 53 points, followed by Pleasantville with 93.
The other CCAA runners to place in the top 25 were Ethan Verbosky of Maple Grove and Cody Kent of Frewsburg in the Class D boys race; and Southwestern’s Nate Lewis and Trey Faulk in the Class C boys race. The remaining places and times for the Wolfpack were Leighanne Swan, 44th, 22:21.3; Caitlyn Kriner, 58th, 22:59.8; Haley Odell, 67th, 23:35.6; Solki Martin-Lacayo, 72nd, 24:19.3; and Tayden Persons, 76th, 24:25.7. Voorheesville finished with 53 points to claim the team title.
“This was the first trip to the state championships for the C/S/P girls cross country team. On a wet and challenging course, they competed with grit and determination and left nothing on the course,” Wolfpack head coach Ray Shrout said. “Hannah, Haley and Solki had all competed at states as individuals before and provided great support to their teammates with the experience they brought to the team. Tayden and Leighanne brought great leadership to the team all year and it was no different this weekend as they brought a great vibe to the team keeping everyone loose and giving it their all in the race. Tess continued to lead the way as she has all season while Caitlyn really stepped up and ran strong as an eighth-grader running as our fourth runner. While we had really hoped to medal and come home with a top-2 finish, these gave their best and represented C/S/P very well.”
Individually, Presley Haines of Maple Grove (22:34.8) was 50th and Calie Hudson of Gowanda (22:334.8) was 51st in Class D; and Lilianna Peterson of Allegany-Limestone (21:07.7) was 28th in Class C.
Kent’s time of 17:48.7 led the way for the Frewsburg boys team, which placed fifth in Class D with 114 points. Other results for the Bears were Juvie Diaz, 35th, 18:22.2; Micah Barber, 41st, 18:33.9; Noah Collins, 76th, 19:52.3; and Daniel Peterson, 92nd, 20:44.1.
Grant Cornell of Franklinville/Ellicottville (18:44.5) placed 45th in the Class D boys race, while Trenton Krenzer of Fredonia/Westfield (19:10.9) was 76th in the Class C boys race.
