Curling Leagues

Sixty teams competed during Week 1 of Northwest Arena’s Backyard Curling Leagues sponsored by Dot’s Gift Boutique.

5:45 JEREMY’S BEL-VIEW MONDAY LEAGUE

The Legion of Broom got off to a hot start to the season as they went undefeated going 2-0 against the Shoeless Joe’s (35-32) and Haggy’s Booze Haggz (47-21) with Adam Irgang and Cecil Miller leading the way.

Fruit of the Brooms won back-to-back as they received outstanding play from Frank Fuller. They cruised past the Team Fahrenheit 49-38 and fended off a comeback from Team Celsius 29-23.

Also 2-0 is Scuba Crew, who slid past the Drunkin Sliders 29-21 and TRCurlers 45-36 with help from Brian Ceci and Tony Stellato.

Rounding out the unbeaten teams are the Stone Cold Maidens. They were led by Kristen McMahon as she helped them inch by Team Celsius 30-28 and take down the Drunkin Sliders 32-24.

Team Fahrenheit broke even at 1-1, as they were led by Jamie Billquist in a victory over the Shoeless Joe’s 29-25. TRCurlers coasted past Haggy’s Booze Haggs 46-36 behind Kevin Anderson’s curling skills.

6:45 JEREMY’S BEL-VIEW MONDAY LEAGUE

Stone Cold Curlers started the season out on the right slider as they went 2-0, notably knocking off the Pickle Pushers 39-29. Janice Franklin showed off her curling prowess early on.

Jamie Smith led Short & Curly to two victories over Snow Good at This 46-36 and Kia Curlers 31-16.

Glass House Gang came ready to curl in their conquests over the Pickle Pushers 31-24 and BLATTS 25-14. Ray Downey was the star on the night for the squad.

Snow Good at This bounced back in a close battle, led by Lauren Stahlsmith, 39-37 against the Galbatos.

The Galbatos started out their night with a win in their first game in a landslide over BLATTS 35-18 thanks their top performer Alex Galbato.

Honest Abe broke even in a 44-29 win guided by Drew Wilcox.

Kia Curlers got the best of Honest Abe in the first game 35-22 thanks to Randy Elleman.

5:30 STEVE CHAMBERS/LUV TOYOTA WEDNESDAY LEAGUE

Golfers on Ice had a commanding first night by capturing two convincing wins over Girls with Stones 38-27 and Gren’s Growlers 45-26 behind strong play from Bob Drake and Jim Craker.

Hindy’s Hurlers were triumphant in both matches, besting Gren’s Growlers in overtime 39-33 thanks to clutch play ushered by Kim Hurley. Hindy’s Hurlers then defeated Slone Melhuish 38-24 with Mark Hinderleider being the top dog of that match.

Curl Jam drew .500 in the second slate of games thanks to Blair Borst in a 28-21 victory over Girls with Stones.

Slone Melhuish earned a nailbiter win over Curl Jam 45-44 piloted by Chris Hernandez.

6:30 STEVE CHAMBERS/LUV TOYOTA WEDNESDAY LEAGUE

The Brush Offs opened their season with two marginal victories over Cold as Ice 42-23 and the Jamestown Hammers 46-30 steered by Jenn Swanson.

The Icemen went 2-0, as they also defeated the Rolling Stones 34-23 and Cold as Ice in a close one 40-37 captained by Paul Gustafson.

Ryan Dalaba escorted his 12 oz. Curlers past In the House 41-32 as they sit at 2-0.

Got Stones round out the unbeatens thanks to Adam Paterniti as they extinguished the Smokin’ Rocks 38-25.

Cathy Panebianco took over for In the House to win a triple-overtime thriller against We’ve Got the Stones 35-32.

Kristen Darr set the bar high in a 31-19 outing when her Jamestown Hammers took on the Smokin’ Rocks.

Cathy Rossey helped We’ve Got the Stones narrowly escape The A&P’s 29-25.

The Rolling Stones had a similar result over The A&P’s 31-21 as Paul Andalora led the way to get one in the win column for his team.

7:30 STEVE CHAMBERS/LUV TOYOTA WEDNESDAY LEAGUE

Curl Power came out strong on opening night by eclipsing Curls Gone Wild 47-28 and Barney’s Hoof Trimming 44-24 with key plays from Emily Lyons and Jen Scolton.

Dan Davis dominated as Dot’s Gift Boutique was victorious when they matched up with Pace’s Aces 35-15 and Drawing A Blank 37-28.

Home Despots and Todd Singleton brought the tools to go undefeated versus the Ice Holers 34-19 and Barney’s Hoof Trimming in a close one 37-34.

Jeremy Gruber made it a long night for opponents as his 12 oz. Curlers came out on top over Drawing A Blank 23-21 and Curls Gone Wild 39-25.

Team Rinaldo is the fifth and final unbeaten in the league thanks to Eric Rinaldo as they edged Pace’s Special 32-15 and Pace’s Aces 25-17.

Draw a Blank illustrated some fight after losing a close one, but bounced back against Pace’s Special 27-21 thanks to Jill O’Brien.

The Ice Holers spoiled the first match for Draw a Blank 25-23. Bridget Lyon and Jennifer O’Dell combined forces for the win.

4:30 RYAN DEPPAS/LEGEND GROUP FRIDAY LEAGUE

Tracey’s Dog started the season out on the right slider, winning two tight games 34-33 and 36-34 in overtime versus Lions & Bears and Always Late, with Joanna Paterniti sliding the deciding stone in overtime.

Seminar Group slid their way to two wins putting up 89 points, with Rex McCray leading the way.

Premier Listings posted two wins, behind strong play from Ashley Anderson.

Always Late topped 2 Curls & 1 Cup 38-26 as Laura Snow was their leading curler and Bruce Moore led Cold Beer Here past Sweeping Beauties 33-16.
