Swan-Leuze Scores Twice, Southwestern Posts Win Over Maple Grove

Heidi Swan-Leuze scored twice as the Southwestern Trojans blanked Maple Grove 5-0 in nonleague girls soccer action on Thursday.

Swan-Leuze scored the first goal of both halves, netting the first in the 11th minute from Lexi Lundmark and then scoring again in the 44th minute, assisted by Kaylyn Carnes. Lucy Brown scored in the 36th minute from Avery Johnson to give Southwestern a 2-0 lead before half.

The Trojans then pulled away with three quick goals in the second half, starting with Swan-Leuze, Lundmark from Brown in the 47th minute and then Makenna Johnson made it 5-0 from Avery Johnson in the 52nd minute.

Southwestern did its best to keep the ball away from goalkeeper Braya Beaver, but when called upon she made the three saves necessary for the clean sheet.

SOUTH DAYTON — Jamestown dominated Pine Valley/Gowanda 11-1 in nonleague action.

The Red Raiders were paced by three goals and two assists from Karryne Mims, Kaylee Leeper added two goals and two assists, Ella Propheter scored twice, Kate Kathman added two assists, both Julia Smith and Quinn Johnson registered a goal and an assist, and both Marcia McIntyre and Nayla Torres scored once.

Pine Valley/Gowanda’s Sarah Kruszka ended the chance of a Jamestown shutout in the 60th minute. Destiny Lindquist and Arryanna Bardo split time in net for the Panthers, combining for 18 saves.

Morgan Maloney made two saves in net for Jamestown.

The Red Raiders host Randolph Saturday morning at 11 and the Panthers host Westfield/Brocton next Thursday.

BOYS

BLACK KNIGHTS 1, MARAUDERS 0

DUNKIRK — Owen Lewis found the back of the net in the 18th minute and that’s all the Silver Creek/Forestville Black Knights would need to top Dunkirk in nonleague boys soccer on the road on Thursday.

Gregory Orcutt Jr. played a big role in keeping the Marauders in the game by making 18 saves. Orcutt’s play in net was boosted by stellar play from Dan Hoth on defense, the freshman played the entire game for the Marauders and helped limit Silver Creek/Forestville chances.

Orcutt’s play in net was matched on the other side of the field by Black Knights’ keeper Joel Dolce who made 12 saves to secure the clean sheet and the first victory of the year.

Silver Creek/Forestville is back in action on Wednesday in Mayville to open Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 2 Central play against Chautauqua Lake. Dunkirk opens Division 1 West play on the same day at home against Southwestern.

PORTVILLE 2, ELLICOTTVILLE 0

PORTVILLE — Portville opened the season with a 2-0 win over Ellicottville.

Seniors Michael Cole and Mario Pascucci found the back of the net for Portville while Simon Szymanski picked up an assist in the win.

Troy VanSickle maintained the clean sheet in net.
