Opening its NJCAA Region 3 schedule, the Jamestown Community College men’s basketball team fell to Erie CC 96-67 Saturday afternoon at the Physical Education Complex.

The Jayhawks (2-16, 0-1 Region 3) were led by freshman forward Gonzalo Luque (Madrid, Spain/Instituto Ortega y Gasset) with 14 points and 13 rebounds and freshman forward Josiah Ransom (Orange Park, FL/Helena HS) finished with 15 points.

Facing a 22-point deficit late in the first half, Jamestown CC went on a 13-5 run to close out the half. Highlighting the rally was freshman forward Moussa Kaba (Jamaica, NY/Martin Luther HS), who knocked down a 3-pointer and made a pair of free throws to make it 49-35 at the break.

The Jayhawks were outscored by the Kats in the second half, 47-32.

JCC went 20-for-44 (44.4 percent) from the floor with Erie CC going 36-for-76 (47.6 percent) from the field. The Kats held the advantage on the glass, grabbing 42 rebounds to the Jayhawks’ 34. Erie CC also held the advantage in points in the paint, 42-36.

The Jayhawks will be back in action Wednesday against No. 14 Niagara County CC with tip set for 7:30 p.m.
