Do we dare say it?
Jamestown is on a “Krusade?”
The collection of youngsters from the counties of Chautauqua and Warren (Pennsylvania) are 2-0 after the first weekend of the Babe Ruth 13-year-old World Series, and appear to be one of the better teams in the 10-team field.
Sunday night the Krusaders not only showed they could swing the bats — they finished with 11 hits — but they also displayed a good dose of resilience and play-making ability at the plate and on the mound that led them to a 12-6 victory over Tallassee, Alabama at Diethrick Park.
Nash Luther, Jamestown’s Player of Game, was a deserving recipient as he not only collected four hits, including a double, drove in three runs and scored three more, but he was also the winning pitcher after a stellar effort in relief.

Luther did have help.
Blake Herman belted a pair of doubles and drove in three runs; Chase Haglund had two hits and scored twice; and Judd Harris stroked a two-run single. Added together, Jamestown enters tonight’s 7 o’clock game against Ohio Valley Regional champion Eau Claire, Wisconsin on a roll.
It’s quite a way for the host team to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the first 13-year-old World Series on the city’s east side.
The first inning showed nerves by both teams, however.
Tallassee parlayed three hits; a hit by pitch; a balk; a walk; and two errors into a 4-0 lead before most of the large, partisan crowd had settled into their seats. But the Krusaders didn’t wilt, tying the game by sending nine batters to the plate in the bottom of the inning, highlighted by a two-run single by Luther.
Game on.
In the top of the second, Jamestown pushed across four more runs on five hits, the big blows coming on Herman’s RBI double and Harris’ two-run single.
Believe it or not, the Krusaders were just getting warmed up.
Herman and Luther, in particular.
Herman’s run-scoring double and Luther’s RBI two-bagger in the top of the third inning, highlighted a rally that pushed the host team’s lead to 10-4.
Tallassee recorded an unearned run in the fourth inning and a single run in the fifth on Konner Taunton’s base hit to close within, 10-6 after 4 1/2 innings, but the Krusaders’ got those runs back in the fifth, jump-started by Luther’s fourth hit of the night and a single by Brody Larson. They both scored on an error, boosting Jamestown’s lead to 12-6.
Armed with a six-run lead, they rode the arms of Luther, who came on in relief of starter Judd Harris in the second inning, and Herman, who worked the final two frames, to go 2-for-2 in the win column on the weekend.
Luther was named the Ron Tellefsen Player of the Game, while Huston Lewis claimed the honor for the Southwest Regional champions.
