Dunkirk’s Gotowka Throws Another No-Hitter

ALLEGANY — When will somebody get a hit off Dunkirk’s Ashley Gotowka?

The senior ace threw her second straight no-hitter in a 6-0 Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 West victory over Allegany-Limestone on Monday.

Gotowka walked a batter in the second inning and another Gator reached on an error in the seventh. She finished with a career-high 19 strikeouts just four days after a 15-strikeout perfect game against Southwestern.

“She’s definitely being a leader and a captain on the mound controlling the pace of the game,” Dunkirk head coach Michelle Gilmour said. “Alyssa Salerno is really helping her out behind the plate.”

Salerno is a sophomore catching for the first time ever.

“They worked a lot last offseason throughout COVID,” Gilmour said, “and that’s why she’s starting for us now.”

The Marauders (3-2, 2-1) scored one run in the first inning before a five-run run second inning. Alyssa Salerno reached on an error before Gina Salerno followed with a double. After two walks, Angelina Piede hit an RBI double, Courtney Zatorski hit an RBI triple and Summer Clark hit an RBI double.

DeYOE, WELTY THROW TWO-HITTER

PORTVILLE — Brooke DeYoe and Mallory Welty combined on a two-hitter with four strikeouts as Portville blanked Franklinville 12-0 in five innings of Division 1 East action.

Sarah Courtney doubled and Megan Jackson singled for Franklinville.
