Drake, Jones, Butera Power JHS Past Niagara Wheatfield
SANBORN — Jamestown’s football dominance of Class A-1 continued Friday night.
Jaylen Butera rushed for 152 yards and three touchdowns; Trey Drake tossed three TD passes to Elijah Rojas; and Demarri Jones had 100 yards receiving as the Red Raiders rolled to a 49-8 victory over Niagara Wheatfield.
Butera scored two rushing touchdowns and Drake connected with Rojas on a 21-yard scoring strike to stake Jamestown (4-0) to a 21-0 lead after the first quarter.
In the second period, Jones scored on a 3-yard run, Drake and Rojas combined for another TD pass, and the Red Raiders reached the break with a 35-0 lead.
In the third quarter, Drake and Rojas connected on a 25-yard TD strike and Butera closed out Jamestown’s scoring with a 10-yard run. On all seven touchdowns, Ella Propheter was successful on her point-after kicks.
Niagara Wheatfield (1-3) avoided a shutout with a touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
In addition to Butera’s rushing totals, Drake completed 12 of 20 passes for 179 yards and three touchdowns; Rojas had five catches for 74 yards and three scores; and Jones caught five balls for 100 yards.
Defensively, Jadiel Johnson had 10 tackles, a sack and a tackle for a loss; Jones collected eight tackles, including three for loss; and Butera added seven stops and an interception.
Jamestown closes out the regular season next Friday when it entertains West Seneca West (3-0). The Indians entertain Lockport this afternoon.
